Prayer Intentions Please include any of these intentions at your daily 3 PM prayer:

For a fruitful Lenten season for our parish as we practice prayer, fasting and almsgiving, and as we celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation,

For the success of the Diocesan Day of Penance on March 14,

For ongoing support to the Parish Building Fund Cam-paign, and that we meet our 2017-18 CMA goal,

For parish stewards and good stewardship,

And for the intentions in our prayer jars.

Let us be known by our praying for each other.

Save the Date: April 8-9, Sun-Mon, 7 PM

Parish Retreat Speaker: Dr. Robert Wicks

The Answer Jesus was asked a question most rabbis of the day was asked: “What is the greatest commandment?” Like other good rabbis,

he answered by reaching into Torah. Yet, the passages he se-lected not only shocked the people of the day but also opened up for us today the answer to what should be our most press-ing question: “How should we live our life fully and share it with others freely?” In this parish retreat, the three themes of presence to others, to ourselves and to God will be addressed through story, suggested practices, and insights into the fol-lowing topics: reaching out without being pulled down, really understanding spiritual and psychological self-care, and devel-oping or enriching one’s own sense of prayerfulness.

Lectio: The Eucharist.

"The Lamb of God," "The Bread of Life," "The Body and the Blood of Christ"... these are phrases we know from the Mass.

But do we understand what they mean in the greater and deeper context of Scripture and Church teaching? Acclaimed author and teacher Dr. Brant Pitre rigorously digs down to the biblical roots of the Eucharist, through its foreshadow-ing in the miraculous events of the Old Testament, the Gos-pels, and Apostolic teaching. We'll discover firsthand how Christ's Body and Blood are an integral and wondrous part of God's plan for our salvation.

The series is ideal for parents preparing children for First Eucharist, teens preparing for Confirmation and the adults in the RCIA program, and any adult parishioners who seeks to deepen their understanding and appreciation for the Eucha-rist.

Catholic Medical Ethics: Palliative Care vs. Assisted Suicide

Presented by Thomas Carroll, MD, PhD, Wednesday, March 21, 7:00-8:00 PM at St. Patrick’s. What Catholics should know about End-of-Life Care and Decisions from a Catholic Palliative Care Physician.

This will be the Confirmation class for students grade 8 and older on the week of March 18. It also serves as the Parent Session for that week. The event is open to all.

Community Dinner Our parish serves the Commu-nity Dinner at the Presbyterian Church every third Saturday of the month. On March 17, we are serving sausage stew, and copies

of the recipe and sign-up sheet are on the Welcome Table. Please remember that donations of paper goods and per-sonal hygiene products are always welcome.

Thank you for your support!

fundraise a good portion of this cost. This experience will be perfect for Confirmation students as they seek to grow in their understanding of their faith and their relationship with God.

See with the Light of Jesus. See with the Eyes of Faith. (Reflection on John 9:1-41)

“Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, “Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him. In this encounter between Jesus and the man blind from birth, Jesus uses the contrasting images of blindness and seeing, and of sinfulness and sinlessness. In an interesting way, Jesus made connection between blindness and sinlessness and between seeing and sinfulness. He did this in order to make us aware of the great-er importance of seeing with the eyes of faith rather than just relying on the eyes of flesh. Living out our faith: Jesus reveals to us a new of seeing, that is, with the eyes of faith. Make prayer the first step in everything you do.

“I am the light of the world.” This is the second of the “I AM” sayings of Jesus in the Gospel of John. Once again, “I AM” is the name that God gave the Israelites. Identifying with this name, Jesus reveals himself as divine. Then, he does more - he reveals that as God, he is the light of the world. If the world would like to truly and honestly see itself, we must be willing to see with the light of God. Living out our faith: It is not bad to keep asking the question, “What would Jesus do?” but one must ask with good knowledge and consistent dependence on the Scriptures and the Tradition of the Church. This way, one does not speculate or do anything that is alien to the faith.

“I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind.” To truly and honestly see with and in the light of God, one must be humble. Judg-ment is related to righteousness, which leads us to a real awareness of the difference between right and wrong, and the recognition of our responsibility to do the right and to avoid the wrong. Jesus as he saves also judges the world according to our willingness to see or not to see with his light. Living out our faith: Read the Gospels. Make sure you are at the point now of finishing reading the Gospel of Mark.

American Catholic Religious Parenting We are at the point in the school year when we evaluate what and how we do in faith formation, sacramental preparation and the Sunday Mass. At the First Communion Retreat, I asked parents, “What do we need to tweak?” to prepare for September 2018. During the homily last weekend, I re-ferred to the Report on American Catholic Religious Parenting (by University of Notre

Dame). I shared the link to this document at the parish Face-book page and also the parish website.

Kindly find the time to read this document as a way of doing prayerful reflection - comparing your familial experi-ence with what is reported in the document. We must do so because renewal in the life of the disciple is important and must be ongoing. May we - both at home and at the parish - provide what is best for our children.
