• IMA solutions preparation was intensively performed from1994 to 2001 (A380 launch) through large researchprojects with avionics suppliersAssessment of System ArchitecturesEvaluation of TechnologiesExercise the IMA industrial processLeading to avionics demonstrators to validate choices and

allow suppliers to go towards maturity

So the IMA solutions have already been experienced by theindustrial actors even before A380 launching

HW & SW resources between avionics systems Multiplexed communication: AFDX & CAN Computers host several avionics functions

• Basic PrinciplesA Module supplier

– Develops Bare Modules including an operating system with astandardised interface (API) users, and strong segregation mechanisms

– Develops associated toolset for users• OS simulators,• Configuration tools and Verification tools for users

– Is responsible for qualification activities at bare module level

Function Suppliers– Develop avionics functions– Integrate and verify and qualify their functions on IMA modules

Airbus– Develops configuration tables which create the “link” between Module

• First deliveries of IMA devices from end of 2002:

Simulation and configuration tools: end 2002

Bare Modules: mid 2003

• Integrated Modules (Bare Module + Functions) weredelivered to the Airbus lab for ground testing progressivelyafter Q4 2003

• First flight of the A380 in april 2005 with full IMAimplementation as planned

• Certification of Bare Modules mid 2006

• Flying successfully ever since...
