WELCOMEMaranatha Baptist Seminary is purposefully designed to train a student’s head, heart, and hands. Our goal is for each student to be theologically articulate, spiritually passionate, and professionally competent in ministry.

Maranatha’s faculty members are well-educated, approachable, and current on theological issues. Our adjunct professors bring a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to prepare you for your ministry calling.

In addition, the ability to obtain your Master of Arts or Master of Divinity without coming to Watertown offers an opportunity for you to remain in your present situation while obtaining your seminary degree.

For more than forty years, Maranatha has trained laborers for local church ministry. Our graduates are known for being Baptist by conviction and balanced fundamentalists. The work of the Lord is urgent and eternal. We desire to prepare you to accomplish that work “To the Praise of His Glory.”

Dr. Marty MarriottPresident, Maranatha Baptist University

Maranatha Baptist Seminary is purposefully designed to train a student’s head, heart, and hands.

LOCAL CHURCHMaranatha teaches that the local New Testament church is God’s ordained institution to carry out His work in this age. The primacy of the local church is emphasized in doctrine and practice.

EVANGELISTICMaranatha challenges and prepares students to have soul-winners hearts and to build strong evangelistic churches. The faculty includes teachers who have many years of experience in building and developing soul-winning churches.

MENTORINGMaranatha provides discipleship and mentoring both in the Seminary and in the local churches. Students work closely with a Seminary faculty member in academic, personal, and spiritual discipleship. Students also participate in a mentoring relationship with the pastor in their local church, where they learn by instruction and hands-on activities the leadership skills necessary for a fruitful ministry.

BIBLICALMaranatha believes in verbal, plenary inspiration. The Bible is the sole authority for faith and practice and is inerrant in all matters it addresses. The literal, historical-grammatical approach to the interpretation of God’s Word is emphasized throughout the entire curriculum.

BAPTISTMaranatha stands without apology for the Baptist distinctives. Baptist polity and principles are taught in the classroom and practiced in the personal ministries of each faculty member.

DISPENSATIONALMaranatha emphasizes the pre-tribulational rapture of all believers and the pre-millennial return and reign of Jesus Christ. Students are taught to “rightly divide the Word of Truth” through a dispensational hermeneutic.

SEPARATISTMaranatha takes a clear stand on separation from personal worldliness and ecclesiastical and theological error.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DEANDR. LARRY R. OATS

Page 5: Maranatha Baptist Seminary Viewbook

Maranatha Baptist Seminary is committed to Christ-centered, Word-centered church ministries. Our goal is to educate church leaders so they are able to feed spiritually hungry people around them with the Word of God.

We educate men to preach the Word of God carefully and accurately. We train counselors who will instruct hurting people toward biblical choices. We prepare men and women for traditional missionary service in areas open to missionary activity and for specialized ministries in fields closed to a Christian witness. We educate church musicians with both academics and practical training to enhance their church music programs.

To that end, we are looking for men and women who desire to give their lives completely to Christ. Is that you?

At Maranatha Baptist Seminary, you will see God is good and powerful in an age where He is dishonored and ignored. You will see God is a God of absolute truth in an age when people think there are many paths to God. You will see the Word of God gives answers to our society—and to every person.

You will be mentored by an experienced faculty member and become involved in a local church, learning to put into practice the lessons of the classroom.

I invite you to join us as we seek the Holy Spirit’s illumination upon God’s unchanging Word. Join us as we learn to worship the Father in spirit and in truth. Join us at Maranatha Baptist Seminary and become equipped for a lifetime of ministry.

‘Til He Comes,

Dr. Larry R. OatsDean, Maranatha Baptist Seminary

MASTER OF DIVINITY

THE PROGRAMAre you called to full-time ministry? Do you want solid biblical and theological training for ministry, but want to be involved in full-time ministry as soon as possibly? Then consider the Master of Divinity program at Maranatha. The core of this traditional 96-hour program includes biblical languages, church history, pastoral theology, biblical studies, and theological studies. This accredited seminary degree can prepare you

for a preaching ministry as a pastor, missionary, chaplain, evangelist, or Bible teacher. Specialize your Master of Divinity degree by choosing an emphasis:

• Biblical Counseling• Biblical Languages• Intercultural Studies• New Testament• Old Testament• Pastoral Theology• Systematic Theology

CHURCH SITE PROGRAM Through our Church Site Program, the Master of Divinity can be completed in your church through online and virtual classes.

Maranatha partners with pastors and churches that desire to provide seminary degrees on-site for church staff, interns, or church members. Mentoring and discipleship, the organization and operation of the church, and the building of

relationships are learned in your local church. Languages, theology, biblical and historical knowledge, and technical skills are taught in the Seminary. You can combine the best of both worlds by serving in a local church and completing your Seminary education.

MILITARY CHAPLAINCY AT MARANATHA Military chaplains serve God and country as ministers to the men and women of our armed forces. Part-time chaplains also serve in the Reserves and the various state National Guard units. A Master of Divinity from Maranatha provides men the educational requirements necessary to serve as chaplains.

Chaplaincy is a demanding and rewarding calling. The various branches of the Armed Forces are looking for men passionate about spiritual ministry, who are compelled by duty to their country to minister with the military. Chaplains are needed in every branch of the military. Serve your country and serve your Lord, with the opportunity to minister around the world. The Department of Defense has approved Maranatha’s Master of Divinity for Chaplaincy preparation.

MASTER OF ARTS IN INTERCULTURAL STUDIES

MASTER OF ARTS IN INTERCULTURAL STUDIESHave you looked recently at the fields? Is God calling you to serve in them full time? Is He calling you to serve overseas in a vocation outside of full-time ministry? If you want to be as prepared as possible for this biblical challenge and mandate, consider the Master of Arts in Inter- cultural Studies.

This program emphasizes the theology and practicality of missions topics like church planting, inner-city ministry, and intercultural communication, applied from a strong biblical and theological framework. Missions courses are taught by experienced missionaries and mission directors, and you will have opportunities to minister in various fields.

MASTER OF ARTS IN BIBLICAL STUDIES Is the Lord calling you to serve as an assistant pastor, youth pastor, missionary, evangelist, or Bible teacher? If so, consider the Master of Arts in Biblical Studies program that emphasizes biblical languages, biblical studies, and theological courses, while providing you with classroom opportunities to learn about practical pastoral issues.

“In preparation for serving the Lord in Ireland, I chose to further prepare with the MA in Intercultural Studies. This program helped me write ethnography and ministry strategy for reaching the Irish as well as shaped my philosophy of missions. For anyone considering intercultural ministry, I highly recommend this degree as it is instrumental in preparing you for service in intercultural contexts.”

MASTER OF ARTS IN BIBLICAL COUNSELING Do you desire to be a wise counselor? Are you in full-time ministry, or perhaps a different vocation, but want to be a more effective communicator of biblical counsel for those struggling with sin? If so, consider the Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling. The curriculum includes practical courses in topics such as crisis counseling and addictive behavior while providing a solid foundation of biblical and theological courses from which to build practical applications.

BIBLICAL COUNSELING SUMMER PROGRAM Are you too busy during the school year to take any classes? We understand. That’s why in addition to the traditional semester format, Maranatha Baptist Seminary offers its Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling in a summer module format. You can complete your MABC in as little as three summers. The courses meet in June of each year.

MASTER OF ARTS IN CHURCH MUSIC

MASTER OF ARTS IN CHURCH MUSICDo you enjoy great music? Are you involved, or do you want to be more involved, in the music program at your church? Is God leading you to lead others in praise to Him? If so, consider the Master of Arts in Church Music. This program is designed primarily for the individual who is already in a church music program. Most of the courses are online and can be done at any time of the day or night. Three campus courses are one-week

modules. Courses range from theoretical, such as Music Analysis, to practical, such as Children’s Ministries.

“Because I work with the music and youth at our church, this degree was exactly what I was looking for: an immersion in graduate theology, practical tools for different areas of ministry, and a challenge in my musical conducting.”

-Peter Wright

MASTER OF ARTS IN ENGLISH BIBLE Is your passion to know Christ and Him alone? Would you like to know more about God’s Word but find it impossible to leave your current ministry or job? Consider the Master

GRADUATE ASSISTANT PROGRAM

The Graduate Assistant (GA) program allows you to complete a Master of Arts or Master of Divinity degree at no cost. Graduate Assistants receive tuition, required fees, and room and board; those not living on campus receive a housing stipend. GAs are responsible for the cost of textbooks.

As a Graduate Assistant, you also receive a stipend for living expenses. The amount depends on your program and whether you have a 10-month or 12-month GA position.

I am thankful for the faculty’s emphasis on incorporating our education into ministry. I was encouraged by my professor to take the time I normally would spend on homework to pray with a member of my church over the phone—a powerful reminder of why I am training. This balance between academic preparation and service is a necessary component of the Seminary experience, and I’m thankful this balance is promoted by our faculty.

-David Anderson

Your GA work assignment (about 25 hours per week, more when classes are not in session) allows you to use your skills in an important job on campus but still have time to maintain the required minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point average in your studies.

We’ll even provide some vacation time so you can visit friends and family or just relax somewhere.

Contact us online if you are interested. There are only a limited number of GA positions available each year, so apply for your spot today.
