The Department of NeighborhoodDevelopment is holding a meeting onJune 30 in the Great Hall at which thefour potential developers for 719Washington Street will present theirproposals. All were encouraged toattend and comment afterwards.

The Ashmont Valley (Fuller/Bailey)Neighborhood Association organized acommunity meeting on June 24 to dis-cuss the recent shootings in the area.As many as 200 people attended. ThePolice Commisioner and other BPDrepresentatives spoke. It seemed like agood starting point for getting peopleto talk together and build community.The Commissioner asked for help ingetting replica guns off the street alongwith small motorized vehicles that arecausing problems in the area.

A suggestion was made for a candi-dates night with joint neighborhoodsponsorship; Bobby said he would fol-low up. The Daily Table is looking forcustomers. AHA would welcome newboard members; speak to DavidMooney if you are interested.

Dave Cotter has recently been namedthe new Dorchester coordinator in theMayor’s Office of Neighborhood Serv-ices; our previous coordinator, AlecBonelli, is entering law school andworking as a legal aide in the BRA’slaw department. Dave was born andraised in Savin Hill; he attended St.William’s School, BC High, and Amer-ican University in Washington, DC,where he studied political science.While in high school Dave was anintern in the office of (then) Represen-tative Marty Walsh; in college he

June Meeting NotesMany thanks to Bob MacEachern for

hosting the meeting. Councilor Charles Yancey reviewed

his legislative history over his 32 yearson the City Council. Pending legisla-tion includes a requirement that policevehicles be equipped with defibrilators;legislation is also pending to requirethem in public buildings. His officenumber is 617-635-3131 if people haveconcerns. He did not vote for therecent City budget: there was notenough money for youth mentors andstreet workers. He also opposed having7th and 8th graders ride the T toschool. A neighbor asked about seeingthe Mayor’s housing report: where andwhat types of housing are being built;the report has not yet been presented tothe City Council. He thinks microa-partments are too small; housingaffordability is also a concern. It isimportant for neighbors to attend hear-
