care for infants and school-age children. Combining video, activities, hands-on skills

training and discussion for a complete learning experience, Babysitter’s Training

Persons age 55 and older who completed this course qualify for the for a ten per-

cent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years. First time partici-

pants must complete two four hour sessions. Repeat persons are required to take a

four hour refresher course. MN Highway and Safety & Research Center “certified”

instructors teach this class. Driver safety, confidence and comfort are enhanced by

utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field, including the latest visual scan-

ning and steering techniques, anti-lock braking skills, airbag information, driver dis-

traction, road rage, and new vehicle technology. Instructor: Rod Kock. Please regis-

Fairmont Waterpark/Prairie Ecology Bus (Grade 2-Grade 6)

Enjoy the fun and sun of summer by visiting the Fairmont Water Park. This water park features attractions for all ages and swimming abilities. After swimming, we will eat lunch at the public park in Truman and then discover the fascinating worlds of birds and trees with the Prairie Ecology Bus. Note: Children need to be 48” tall to ride the waterslides at Fairmont. Also, check swimsuits for and metal clasps as they will be cut off of suits.

To start off the day we are heading up to Hyland Play Area. Hyland Play area is an award winning creative play area with structures that include platforms, hex-agonal climbers and slides up to 50 feet long! After lunch, we will keep the “gears” turning as we visit “the Works”. The Works is a "hands-on, minds-on" museum that makes learning about engineering, science and technology inter-esting, understandable and fun.

The Maple River Football Coaching staff is excited for the ’12season to get

underway. We would like the 9th graders to attend Session I the first two

days of camp the attend Session II the second two days of camp. If a player

can not change his schedule to attend session two, they may remain in ses-

sion one for the remainder of camp. There will be two sessions separating

the age groups. Both sessions will concentrate on the fundamentals of foot-

ball including blocking techniques, tackling, skill position work, terminology

and fun competitions. The campers need to come dressed in appropriate

clothing to wear under pads and football pants. Football cleats are recom-

mended. (7-9) will be in shoulder pads and shorts on the first day of camp.

We will be handing out football gear 30 minutes prior to your sessions start

time. The Session I participants may start fitting their football gear at 7:30

a.m. @ the football practice fields. (South End). Session II will need to get

their gear around 9:00 a.m.

This year we will again be playing in a volleyball league. This is a list of the schools who

will play in our league. LCWM, New Richland, St. Clair, Truman, Loyola, JWP, and

Madelia, and USC. We will play on Saturday. Players in grades 5 and 6 for the 12/13

school year. The format will be 3 school and you will play 2 matches on Saturday

mornings.

Children and their families are invited to spend a summer day at the Como Zoo and Conservatory. Tour the Zoo at your leisure. After lunch, children will each get a 3-hour ride wristband to use at Como Town.

MN HISTORY MUSEUM/LAKE MINNETONKA REGIONAL PARK BEACH (Grade 2-Grade 6)

First, we will head off t0 the Minnesota History Center for an interactive look at the museum. Located near the State Capital, the History Center features innovative exhib-its including “Open House: If these walls could talk” and “Minnesota’s Greatest Gener-ation: The Depression, the War, the Boom.” Next, we will head over to Lake Minneton-ka’s Regional Park. A perfect spot for an afternoon of swimming, the park offers a chlorinated, sandy-bottom swimming pond.

Boys and Girls in Kindergarten this year ‘11/’12 and Kindergartners starting this fall

Maple River Kinder-ball will play on Tuesdays at 6:15. All participants will be taught

how to catch, throw, swing and field grounders and pop-ups. They will work on

these skills with the help of a volunteer head coach and parent volunteers to help

Grades 1 and 2 this school year ‘11/ 12 We play on Monday and Thursday at 6:15Tee

Ball Baseball is for boys and girls who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and

fielding. In Tee Ball, players hit a ball off a batting tee, but coaches are permitted to

pitch to batters if they deem the player capable of hitting a pitched ball. Rules of the

game may be varied to accommodate the need for teaching. The primary goals of Tee

Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to expe-

rience the value of teamwork. Tee-Ball participants will first practice in stations:

hitting, fielding ground balls, throwing, and catching.. They will then be divided into

teams and play a game. We will need a parent to volunteer as the Coach and parents

volunteers to and help with each station and games. We will not have uniform shirts.

We will not play if there is lighting or tornado warnings. Coach will cancel game and

Ready for K Camp Ready for K Camp is open to all 2012-2013 Kindergarten students in the Maple River

School district. The focus of the camp will be to introduce students to their school

building, classroom, peers, and routine of the Kindergarten day in a 3-day simulation

of the classroom schedule. These days will help your child with any apprehension or

excitement in that “First Day of School”. The camp will be led by Maple River Flying

Eagles Preschool teacher, Joan Morrison, with input from the district’s Kindergarten

teachers and additional Early Childhood staff. Maximum class size of 15, minimum of 8

to hold session required.

****It would be suggested to have your child attend the camp site that he/she will be

attending for Kindergarten. However, if dates at the other location work better you

Ready for K Family Nights

Ready for K family nights will be held this summer in an effort to help families help

their child be Ready for K. These sessions are open to all 2012-2013 Kindergarten stu-

dents & parent or parents in the Maple River School district. The focus of each session

will be to guide families in giving their child experiences in the home & community

that will help build lifelong learning skills. Each session will focus on separate K-Ready

topics and offer applicable projects and hands on ideas for families. The sessions will

be developed by Joan Morrison & Brenda Blank, Maple River Preschool teachers, with
