Name the fish!

The library has adopted a little Betta. The month of March brings with it a bit of Rasmus-sen Madness and the librarian has caught a large dose! So, from now until the end of the quarter, come into the library to vote for your favor-ite fish name! The name with the most votes will be bestowed upon the library’s new friend.

Tips for Student Success

1. Be Prepared - Do your homework and assigned readings before class, think about the content ahead of time, and write down any questions you may have prior to class.

2. Take Notes - You will not remember everything the instructor says or eve-rything you read, so take notes to rec-ord and highlight important points. Be sure to re-read them after class and after your reading.

3. Communicate– Always communicate with your instructor if you have ques-tions, are going to miss class, or if you have an issue outside of school.

Possible fish names: Ember Trevor Betty Calypso Louie

Online Tutoring

NEW and Returning Students: Don’t forget to use the Online Tutoring Service, powered by Brainfuse! Expert tutors online can answer your questions online. It’s available 24/7 off your student portal. There are also Instant Chat services - staffed by Learning Center Coordinators & Librarians - to help you at different times.

Typing Master Tutorial

The Library and Learning Centers are now offering an online software that can help you increase your typing speed and accuracy. The software, know as Typing Master Tutorial, is linked to and from the student portal (portal.rasmussen.edu). Typing Master has typing pre-tests, games, courses, assessments, and more to help you increase your typing speed and accuracy. Most of the courses take no more than five minutes and a little practice can have a big impact.

Students, your account has already been set up for you, so simply log in with the first part of your Rasmussen email (normally firstname.lastname) and your

Rasmussen PIN (initials and the last four digits of your Social Security Number). Faculty and staff, see your librarian or learning center coordinator to be set up with an account. How can Typing Master Tutorial benefit you? It can help you type up to four times faster, so you save time when typing up your papers and discussion posts. It will also let you get the typing out of the way so you can focus on the content of your paper. Finally, remember to log out when you are done since only 6 people can be in at once.

Rasmussen Mankato has two new corpo-rate partnerships:

From the Blogs

These sites are great for your job search and

many companies use them. You are also able

to post your resume so that recruiters are able

to search for you.

In addition, make sure to create a profile on

LinkedIn.com. This site not only allows you

to make connections, it allows you to network

with people and connect with businesses, but

also to search for jobs and learn more about

the people connected to that position. Basical-

ly, it takes the guesswork out of networking,

and offers a direct link from your connections

to the positions you are interested in.

And don’t forget about JobConnect, Ras-

mussen’s own online employment database.

JobConnect is a free and easy-to-use re-

source where you will find postings for loca-

tions both close to Rasmussen College cam-

puses and nationwide.

If you have not already registered, the process

is simple. Just follow these steps:

Go to https://Rasmussen-csm.symplicity.com

1. Click on "Student/Alumni"

2. Click on "Register" (It’s free.)

3. Fill out your profile and information

4. Your registration will be reviewed within

24–48 business hours of submission Once your registration is accepted, be sure to

upload a copy of your resume When your registration is complete you can

login to the database to search jobs posted at

Rasmussen College and across the country.

Employment Sites to Land a Job,

Advance your career

Searching the web is a great way to find

positions, as well as discover positions or

job titles that you never considered before.

Since there are so many places to search for

jobs, I wanted to offer some tips and share

some of my favorite job search sites.

Here are a few of my tips for job searching

on the web:

In the filter box, attempt many different

keyword options. If you choose to be spe-

cific at first with your key words, remember

to also do a generic search with no key-

words. Utilize job alerts when they are available. If you are really interested in a specific

company you will get notifications when

they post new positions. Network and be connected. Even with the

best online job boards there are still many

positions that are never posted. Research

organizations and get involved/volunteer

with organizations where you can meet and

network with people. The “hidden job mar-

ket” is real and networking works. Always make sure that you research the

companies you are contacting or that

may be contacting you. Sometimes if the

position or company sounds too good to be

true, it probably is.

There is a general blog area (aka Main), blogs for each of Rasmussen’s schools, and blogs for Career Services, College Life, and Learning. Have you read any lately? You’ll find great advice, inspirational stories, valuable information, and connections to other Rasmussen students. Written by Anna Alanko (February 22, 2013)
