We have just gone out for tender for a service provider to develop an integrated operational plan which will identify the most appropriate routes for BRT, Metrobus, PUTCO, mini bus taxis, metered taxis and Avanzas.
We will negotiate this with affected public transport operators
For members of the public this will lead to a DENSER public transport network, making public transport more accessible and reducing the need to use a car to come into the Sandton CBD
To be operationalised by 2017
![Page 27: Making Sandton liveable and eco-mobile Sandton liveable and eco-mobile CI… · Current in and out movements AM Inbound 07:30 – 08:30: -16,529 vehicles -28,206 people 06:00 –](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051922/600ff498cf54e35be14b8528/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)

Building infrastructure and introducing services will not necessarily mean that people will get out of their cars to use public transport or cycle
The City also has to enable and support behavioural change through: Providing high quality public transport information Making sure using these modes are safe through
enforcement and awareness Activations and campaigns
Our key initiative to shift mind sets and modes will be a month long Eco-Mobility Festival in October 2015 preceded by a Cycle Week in March 2015
![Page 30: Making Sandton liveable and eco-mobile Sandton liveable and eco-mobile CI… · Current in and out movements AM Inbound 07:30 – 08:30: -16,529 vehicles -28,206 people 06:00 –](https://reader034.fdocuments.in/reader034/viewer/2022051922/600ff498cf54e35be14b8528/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
Month long international festival to be arranged in partnership with ICLEL (international association for sustainable local government)

Will involve closing certain streets in Sandton for one month to cars but allowing all other eco-mobile forms including electric cars, tuk tuks, cyclists etc.
Will include an international conference, street festivals, fun runs, healthy food markets etc.

Detailed transport and traffic study to determine which streets to close and how to mitigate impact – including to provide additional public transport, pop up cycle lanes, provision for deliveries etc.
More extensive public consultation with residents, workers and stakeholders
