When we embed connectivity in everyday objects. What happens when those objects are designed with an understanding of the affordances of the web.

An invention process
Idea > prototype* > patent *minimum viable functionality
idea > mockup*> protect> promote > sell > manufacture > distribute *non-functional
A design process

Good Night Lamp
An open process. The most valuable ideas are developed through experimentation.
Plants. Botanicalls. 2007, ITP
Plants. EasyBloom Moistly Parrot Koubachi Plantlink
IOT’s future. Some ideas just keep being repeated until a larger player gets involved.
Wifi-connected lightbulbs. When Phillips launched Hue, there were 6 wifi-connected blubs projects on Kickstarter.
I am not anti-design Design should be an open & flexible process of learning. Design should be collaborative by default.

The difference? The value is in the doing, not the idea.
The difference? The fact that you can design for other people.
Designing for real problems.
Who are makers? Computer Scientists with an interest in products. too rarely Product designers with an interest in computer science.
Who are makers? People who understand the internet as a tool. too often People who understand the internet as a window display.
Women are helping change that. @superflux @LaurieJ @clurr @jessibaker
What does this have to do with diversity & accessibility? There are no limits. There is no landscape. There are no silos.
