Christine has been a foster carerwith Life Without Barriers for morethan nine years.

She has been a foster mother formore than 100 children and duringthis time has helped make a differ-ence in each child’s life, whether it befor a short-term stay or long-termperiod at her home.

“Some people say to me it must bedifficult being a foster carer,” Chris-tine said. “But I always say theyshould keep in mind that we are justhere as stepping stones for the kids sothey keep progressing. We have anopportunity to make a difference totheir lives through our involvementwith them, by being there to helpthem along their journey.”

Becoming a foster carer can beseen as challenging but Christine

finds it a vastly rewarding experience.“For me, it’s all about the children I

support. Seeing their smiles and theircontentment while in my care is areward itself,” she said.

“Each child has their own mile-stones that they reach and everysmall achievement is a great successfor them. Whether it’s learning to eatby themselves or developing theirhand-eye coordination, it’s fantasticto be part of.

“When they start to vocalise andcommunicate with me — each intheir own way — it’s a great feeling.”
