Rosemary’s reply is simple. “We stay true to our word with our promotion of fine food, beverages and crafts that are sourced purely from the Huon and Channel region,” Rosemary said. Held at the recreation ground at Ranelagh — a short 30 minute drive south of Hobart — the annual festival will be run next week over the Labour Day long weekend next week Rosemary said the quality of stalls comes from the strict criteria stallholders have to adhere to. “Their product has to be sourced from the Huon Valley and Channel region, purposely they work with the committee to present a professional stall and to provide wholesome, healthy, fresh food and beverages that are passionately prepared for the two day festival,” she said. “Where in the world would you expect to find green and black tea grown at Nichols Rivulet, premium honey from Bruny Island and the Weld Valley, gorgeous cut flowers from the Cradoc nursery, beer, wine, cider and milk soaps, tasty goats cheese and saffron, from the Channel region all on one parcel of land.” The festival will host more than 40 food stalls with everything from tiny pancakes from the Smallest Pancakes in Town to Indonesian Martabak cooked using the freshest Huon Valley products. FOOD AND WINEWHAT better way to celebrate 25 years of the Taste of the Huon festival than a feast of local food and wine.

Festival-goers are invited tojoin the celebrations and indulge in beautifully cooked local produce from more than 40 stallholders, that will satisfy you from entree right through to dessert.

Just one of the delicious dishes featured at this year’s event will be free-range baby pork spareribs with a sticky barbecue sauce served with an apple slaw, from the Lean to Kitchen.

Matthew Evans, of Fat PigFarm, will also have his homegrown pulled pork on offer.

Wash all of that down witha cider from the Huon, chilli ginger beer, a Cascade beer or try something a little different with a glass of mead from Mountain View Meadery.

Deemed by many as the ‘drink of the gods’, Mountain View will be delivering five different takes on the traditional honey wine including Beekeepers’ Special, Purple Berry Bush, Blackberry, Clarrot (a combination of clover and carrot) and Prickly Box Mead.

While Huon Valley apple

juice and Hartz mineral water will be available for those looking for a non-alcoholic refreshment.

There will also be the long-standing crowd favourites – Gypsy Rolls and Tempura Mushrooms from Festival Mushrooms on offer as well as a gourmet pizza selection from Mountain Pepper Pizza.

Save room for dessert though – as newcomers Something from the Ground Blueberries – put on a simply

perfect milkshake of fresh blueberries with local 2Cow Dairy milk.

Or indulge in the special regionally inspired dessert-cum-drink created by Gypsy Rolls for the 25th anniversary.

The dessert includes a posset of honey, lemon and passionfruit, with Mountain River yoghurt and 2Cow Dairy cream as the base.

Keep the kids happy withan early dessert at 1pm each day as stilt men hand out free

toffee apples, with the apples coming from the Duggan’s orchards and the Home Hill chefs adding toffee. Be quick though because there will be a limited supply.

ENTERTAINMENTWITH eating and drinking covered, the only thing left to do is be merry.

Sunday will see AustralianIdol favourite Shannon Noll take to the stage from 2pm to

bring his quintessentially Australian country-rock to the festival.

“Noll has cemented himselfas one of the most popular performers in Australia, he is a country boy and will be a great fit for our laid-back festival,” Rosemary said.

7HOFM radio station willbe broadcasting live from the festival grounds from 10am until 2pm, with radio announcer and former My Kitchen Rules star Mick

Newell in for a chat on Monday.

Gourmet Farmer MatthewEvans will be on stage on Monday at 2pm and will do comparative tasting – comparing different hams, cheeses, vegetables and oysters from different oyster beds.

The children haven’t beenforgotten either with Melinda the Balloon Lady set to amuse and engage the young ones on both days.

A FINE SELECTION: Sarah Anderson of Sandfly’s Tasmanian Fruit Pies, Tim Direen of 2CowMilk of Cygnet, and Sarra Gregg of Natural and Organic Delights, are all busily preparing to serve the hungry hoards at this year’s Taste of the Huon festival. Picture: NIKKI DAVIS-JONES
