Animation & Media Industry

*Data and figure obtained from various authentic like NASSCOM, FICCI, WIKIPEDIA etc.

Sample trends from the industry*

v The entertainment market globally which was USD 222 billion till 2017 is

expected to grow at 9% YOY in the traditional markets of the west, Japan

and Korea

v The Indian animation industry’s total net-worth is estimated at US$ 247

million in 2017 and is expected to grow 15-20% YOY in the next five years.

It employs about 80000 people and there is scope still for an equal number.

v An important part of the animation industry, Gaming grew to INR 3100.00

crores in 2017 with a CAGR growth of 32%- up from 20% a year before!

v The starting salary for a fresher would be in the range of INR Rs.10,000.00

to Rs18,000 which is expected to go up exponentially for trained

professionals. The reason for this is the huge size of the market and

comparative lack of trained manpower in the entertainment industry.

Animation in India is currently aided by two key factors, namely, a large base

of highly skilled professionals and low cost of production compared to the

more mature and traditional market like North America and Europe.

In addition, several important factors such as Government’s role in

supporting the animation industry and production of original content locally

also add to its gaining prominence steadily.

Rapid advancement of technology has made computer animation available

to the masses and the animation industry is one of the fastest growing

industries. The demand for animated entertainment has expanded with

the increase in broadcasting hours by cable and satellite TV along with the

growing popularity of the Internet. In the past, animation series were aimed

at children aged nine and below. In recent years however, TV stations

have been producing animation series for teenagers, adults and the whole

family.
