Magazine Inspirations

Genre: Entertainment (Regional)

Page 2: Magazine inspirations

These three magazines are inspiring me to create a regional entertainment magazine for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason I have chose this genre is because I feel like it lacks a regional circulation. Most entertainment magazines are usually nationwide and typically loved. I have researched and found there are a limited number of this genre, therefore I feel it is worth exploring and creating one of my own. Empire is the most recognisable film magazine in the UK because of it’s bold appearance which features a cover star usually in the centre of the page, from the latest blockbuster or film. The costume suits the film genre featured, and the colour scheme of red being bold is something I admire. The background also features a futuristic design with the shades of blue and grey. I feel this adds professionalism and a crossover between design and feature.

Total Film is another film magazine that I will take inspiration from due to the alternative magazine style of using blue’s and yellow as the stand out theme. This individuality appeals to me as I don’t want to create a magazine that looks like an obvious clone of an existing one. The blue colour scheme also provides a cinematic element, which I something I want to explore in my magazine. Additionally, NME is a music magazine which I am inspired from as it is well known and positively appreciated therefore, the features and conventions this magazine shows is something I wish to emulate in terms of feedback.
