Estimados Colegas:

Hace algunos dias Miriam Hernandez una de las hijas de nuestro recordado Maestro Jose Hernandez Delgadillo y quien actualmente reside en Vancouver me solicito que escribiera una Breve Nota sobre la Obra del Maestro en ocasion de un Evento Internacional celebrado en esta ciudad.Aqui les va la nota que escribi asi como algunas vistas de su Obra.

A few days ago Miriam Hernandez one of the daughters of the latest mexican Maestro Jose Hernandez Delgadillo and who is actually living in Vancouver, asked me to write a brief note on the maestro's artwork in occasion of an international event celebrated here. Here is my brief note on his artwork as well some pictures of his Art.

Plástica Rebelde...Muralismo en Lucha:

José Hernández Delgadillo Pintor, Escultor, Grabador y Muralista nació en Hidalgo, Mejico en 1927 y murió en Ciudad de Mejico en el año 2000.

El Arte de nuestro recordado Maestro José Hernández Delgadillo es un epicentro de los pueblos oprimidos en lucha.

En su trabajo los opresores se presentan con figura de monstruos depredando en la oscuridad el asalto diario a los derechos humanos de los más pobres de la tierra.

El pueblo trabajador es presentado en actitud de permanente protesta tomandose las calles en lucha organizada con los puños en alto, desafiante de todas las formas que el poder encarna para someterlo y asfixiarlo.

Su plástica Mejicana Expresionista retoma las formas y colores de la simbología de las Culturas milenarias y por ello jaguares y serpientes emplumadas, sacrificios tribales, calaveras vociferantes, fuego en lucha, rostros de ira son el centro de sus alucinantes composiciones. Su color es el de la tierra por adentro de sí misma, mineral del odio, geología del magma, ocres hediondos, amarillos implacables y rojos que calcinan.

Artista incansable prefería trabajar sus enormes Murales junto a los obreros y estudiantes en acción combativa y muchísimas veces sus murales están pintados con firmes trazos de color puro, con el enorme poder de su dibujo transformaba a los humanos en gigantes, a los Obreros en amos de su propia historia y al espacio pintado en un teatro de furia.

Cuando en el año 1985 José Hernández Delgadillo fue pre-candidato de la izquierda mejicana a Presidente de la República todos los artistas soñamos un presidente a la par de nuestra luchas, a la par del Pueblo trabajando diariamente por una nueva república....cuando ganaron los Políticos aquella nueva ronda nos dimos nueva cuenta de porqué allá la política sigue mal y la Nación en crisis: siempre son los políticos de la demagogia quienes ganan y los ciudadanos concientes los eternos perdedores.

La historia del arte universal no podrá olvidar las lecciones de este maestro mejicano para quien el arte es un Libro abierto a los niños, mujeres y hombres que transitan por las calles de un Mejico en permanente lucha. Delgadillo es un activista del Mural, su Estética pública es un manifiesto contra la Injusticia, contra el poder que somete, corrompe y aniquila a los seres humanos. Su visita a Vancouver en 1996 significó su abrazo al Canadá fraterno y solidario que también cree y lucha por un mundo mejor para todos y cada uno de nosotros.

El mejor Homenaje a este Gran Maestro Mejicano es contemplar y sentir su Obra palpitante y revivir con ella la dignidad de un mundo en lucha.

Dos de sus más vibrantes Murales podemos visitarlos en la Ciudad de Cuernavaca, estado de Morelos en Mejico en la Hacienda de Cortés así como obra de caballete en el Museo

Art in Rebellion, Murals in Struggle:

Jose Hernandez Delgadillo Painter, Sculptor, Printmaker and Muralist was born in Hidalgo, Mexico in 1927 and died in Mexico City in the year 2000. The Art of the Artist Jose Hernandez Delgadillo is an epicentre of the oppressed peoples in permanent struggle.

In his artwork the oppressors appear with figure of monsters depredating in the darkness the daily assault to the human rights of the poorest on Earth. The working people is displayed in attitude of permanent protest having taken themselves the streets in organized struggle with the fists up, challenging all the forms that power incarnates just to asphyxiate as well to annihilate them. His Mexican Expressionist Visual Art retakes the forms and colours of the symbolism of the millenarian Cultures and for that reason jaguars and feathered serpents, tribal sacrifices, vociferous skulls, fire in struggle, faces of wrath are the centres of his hallucinating compositions. His colour is the one of the Earth by inside of itself, mineral of hatred, geology of the magma, stinky ochre’s, implacable yellow and red that burns.

Untiring artist he preferred to work his enormous Murals next to the workers and students in combative action and many times his murals are painted with firm outlines of pure colour, with an enormous expressive power his drawing skills transformed humans into giants, workers in masters of their own destiny and the painted space in a full theatre of fury.

When in 1985 Jose Hernandez Delgadillo was pre-candidate of the Mexican left to be President of the Republic all the artists dreamed on a president of our struggles, one besides of the people working daily for a new republic: when the Politicians won suchnew round we realized WHY politics still is such a bad business there and WHY the Nation still is in a deep crisis: there are always the politicians of the demagoguery those who win when the conscientious citizens are on the losing side.

The history of universal art will not forget the lessons of this Mexican Master for whom Art is an Open Book to the children, women and men who journey by the streets of a Mexico in permanent struggle.

Delgadillo is an activist of the Mural, his public Aesthetics is a demonstration against Injustice, against the power that puts under, corrupts and annihilates human beings. His visit to Vancouver in 1996 meant his embrace to the fraternal Canada the one that also fights for a better world for all of us.

The best Tribute to this Great Mexican Master is to contemplate and to feel his fascinating Artwork and to recall with it the dignity of a world in permanent struggle.

We can visit two of his more vibrant Murals in the City of Cuernavaca, state of Morelos in Mexico in the Hacienda de Cortes as well his easel paintings at the Hernandez

Delgadillo Museum in the same locality.
