at Swisse – people, principles and

passion before profit, ‘The 4 Ps’.

At the core of our philosophy is a

belief that the conventional approach

to health can be improved upon.

We believe that people should focus

on maintaining and sustaining their

The Make a Difference Foundation is a

not-for-profit volunteer-run organisation

that raises funds to help disabled,

sick and disadvantaged children and

young people.

2015 is MAD Foundation’s fifteenth

year and over that time it has raised

in excess of $1.2 million and directly

supported over 250 children and their

families across Victoria and Australia,

and thousands of other people through

its support of other charities.

MAD Foundation’s major partner

is the Department of Developmental

Medicine at the Melbourne Royal

Children’s Hospital, which provides

care for children with conditions

such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida,

autism spectrum disorders, acquired

neurological disabilities, development

delay and other disabilities.

The Department identifies children

and families who desperately require

equipment, therapy and or respite

care, but cannot afford the cost.

MAD Foundation then directly

supports through the purchase of

equipment such as motorised andmanual wheelchairs, hoists and slings,

therapeutic beds, specialised car

seats and seating systems, walking

and standing frames, communication

and voice output devices, second skin

garments, plus occupational, speech

or physical therapy sessions.

MAD Foundation raises funds through

the not-to-be-missed MAD Foundation

Annual Charity Ball at the Plaza

Ballroom of the Regent Theatre in

Melbourne which has become the

premier charity fundraising event

over the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The MAD Ball embodies the spirit

of the MAD Foundation where people

step up and make a difference by

coming together to have fun, celebrate

with their families, friends and colleagues

and raise funds for the beneficiaries.

MAD Foundation also raises funds

through other events and through direct

donations that are fully tax-deductible.

MAD Foundation partners with some of

Australia’s leading companies including

The Knight Alliance, Bunnings, Cisco,

John Beever Australia, Swisse, Marsh,

Fitzroys, Marriner Group, Punt Road,

Qenos, Telstra, Veolia and Whitbread.

A wholly volunteer run organisation,

MAD Foundation’s vision is to grow

sustainably to help more disadvantaged

children and adolescents.

MAD Foundation began when a groupof friends challenged themselves, their

families and friends to “step up and

make a difference” to help people in

the community who needed support.

In that spirit, MAD Foundation aims

to inspire and challenge all of us to

understand that a little effort can

make a big difference.

T H E M A D F O U N D A T I O N

It has been a very busy year at MAD Foundation’s beneficiaries desk! Thanks to the

amazing generosity of MAD’s sponsors, donors and partners, we have been able to

Make A Difference to the lives of more than 50 children and their families. Here are

just 2 of the many thank-you’s MAD receives th rougho ut the year.

BENEFICIARIES

CASE

01

Ellie has a diagnosis of Wolf-Hirshorn syndrome with associatedglobal developmental delay, epilepsy, hearing impairment, postural

abnormalities and a vision impairment. She requires maximum

assistance for all activities of daily living. Ellie currently sleeps in

a standard cot that she has outgrown and it is unsafe. She currently

pulls herself into a standing position in her cot and is at very high

risk of falling out of her cot head first (as the cot rails come up

to her hip height) or falling backwards and hitting her head.

Ellie requires a bed that is safe and secure with high sides so that

Ellie can not pull herself up and fall out of as she is not safe without

full support and supervision of an adult.

FUNDING REQUIRED: $11,919 – this was the gap between SWEP funding

& full cost of item.

To the team at The MAD Foundation,

I have been writing this email in my head for a couple of daysnow, trying to work out how to word and convey how thankfulour family is to The MAD Foundation for providing thefull GAP funding of $11,000+ for the sleep safe bed for ourdaughter Ellie.

Your ge nerosi ty has compl etely blown us aw ay. We were soanxious when we found out the price of the only bed thatis suitable to keep Ellie safe while she sleeps, due toher having no fear, being a climber, and also no idea ofconsequence. The hefty price tag was a complete shock, and we wer e wor ried about obtain ing t he fun ds to purcha se it,as we were in no financial position to purchase it ourselves.

We just wanted to sa y a huge t hank y ou to every one i nvolv edat your organisation. This funding will mean that our big girl will be 110% safe i n her bed an d we as par ents c an sl eep wel l,not having to worry about her. This means the world to us.

Once again, thank you. Warmest Regards,

Melissa & Luke

Tom is 12 and he has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – a progressive

degenerative disease which causes muscle weakness and wasting.

Tom has reached a point where walking is becoming increasingly

difficult making it very hard to keep up with his peers and family,

just a t a time in his li fe when independence and mobi lity a re

vitally important.

“Tom had a trial of the scooter a few weeks ago and he loved it.

After talking to his mum she said that with this scooter there would

be so many things they could do as a family that they haven’t been

able to do since Tom’s mobility has decreased.

This is a family that is so thankful for any help they receive and

just want the best for their son. Waiti ng for funding for the scooter

through SWEP for 12 months is less than desirable and means that

Tom will miss out on so many things during this time.

As Tom’s condition is degenerative we don’t know for certain how

Tom will be in 12 months so we would love for him to have the

scooter as soon as possible.”

MAD Foundation provided $8500 to fund the purchase of a

4-wheeled scooter for Tom. This was the message we received

from his mum via his Case Manager:

Oh My Good Golly,

I really can’t believe that… how amazing.

Everyone involved are all total angels.

I now can’t wait to get home to tell Tom, he will be totallyecstatic. It couldn’t have come at a better time as over the lastcouple of weeks he has been on a big downer and frustratedand concerned (we certainly wont be able to keep him homenow ha-ha).

Thank you to you both for all the hard work and research youhave done on this for Tom. Robert and myself understand thehard work you put into these things for Tom and we thank you from the b ottom of ou r hea rts.

 Again thank you, thank you.
