PHILADELPHIA YOUTH COACH

TO RECEIVE DAVID DAHMS AWARDARLINGTON, Texas – Barbara Council-Armstead of Philadelphia, a

United States Bowling Congress Silver coach who has been involved with

youth bowling for more than two decades, has been selected to receive the

2015 David Dahms Coach of the Year Award.

The award is named in honor of the coach who was instrumental in the

creation of the Junior Gold program. It recognizes a USBC-certified coach

who has been actively involved in a USBC Youth program and has

demonstrated outstanding commitment to coaching, sportsmanship and

knowledge of USBC Youth rules for the last seven or more years. The

International Bowling Campus Youth Committee selects the winner fromthose nominated.

“Gaining national recognition for a passion that has driven me for over

20 years acts to fuel my commitment for as long as there are youth

bowlers to serve,” Council-Armstead said. “I am honored that because of

coaching, I am helping to strengthen a program which provides a playing

field for elite and developing youth bowlers.”

Council-Armstead started and has coordinated a youth bowling league

at Erie Lanes for the last 20 years along with her husband, Donald, who

received the Dahms Award in 2010. She has been the youth director and

first vice president for the Southeast Pennsylvania USBC and has worked

with the Philadelphia High School Bowling Program as the program’s

assistant and as a coach.

On the national level, Council-Armstead was The National Bowling

Association’s youth program director for five years and started the annu-

al TNBA Youth Weekend, in which eight youth bowlers are invited to the

International Training and Research Center in Arlington to go through the

Team USA training program. She served on the USBC National YouthCommittee for four years and is a volunteer at the Junior Gold national

tournaments.

“I am humbled that because of receiving this award, my name will

always be associated with David Dahms’ vision,” Council-Armstead said.

“He and other noteworthy youth program advocates, such as former

YABA Executive Director Jim Zebehazy, should be commended for their

foresight when they planned for the future of our sport.”

Council-Armstead receives an expenses-paid trip to the USBC

Convention, set for April 27-30 in Omaha, Nebraska, where she will

receive the David Dahms Coach of the Year Award. BOWL.com will live

 blasting ten “600s” and thirty-

eight deuces. Three of the four

top scorers deliver two-hand

 power shots with Bergenfield

senior Greg Khan triple deuce

264-206-217-687, a set matched

DePaul senior Joe Malyack

proved one can be potent with a

standard one-hand punch, crush-

ing the plastic-coats with yet

another triple deuce 213-257-

203-673. Khan’s numbers, with

the aid of two-time North Jersey

Laloo’s 235, were enough to

carry Bowler City III past

Boonton, 4-3. Boonton respond-

ed in the finale with a huge 991,

earning the quartet three points

Peter Hancock 219-193 and

stellar threesome, Paramus

Catholic sophomore Kristen

Kane’s breakthrough 227-223-

632, the season’s third best girls

Montvale were Matt Russell 221-

193, Henry Tipping 200 andChris Torres 189. Lopez com-

improving Jenai Bacote 181 to

salvage three points from Fair

Lawn in the afternoon’s closest

match, 2905-2851. Fair Lawn

escaped with the first two games

as anchor Steve Plaszky lit up the

leader-board with the session’s

other triple deuce 224-212-200-

636. Adding to Fair Lawn’s flur-

ry of “200s” were Matt Myers

233-205, Madison Perry 222 and

Tyler Nappi 201.

Mentioned earlier, Joe

Malyack’s 673 ignited HolidayII’s offense as Indian Hills’ jun-

ior Craig Oriente fired 220-198-

200-618 and Ramsey sophomore

Devin Crowley 199-192 in a

2984-2874 victory over Lodi.

Lodi earning its two points with

an electric 1036-1028 triumph,

 punctuated by Chris Navarro’s

253 and Brandon Voorhees’ 213,

also rolling well in the match was

Lodi’s Steve Kropilak with 225-

196.

In other encounters, Bowler

City II shocked Holiday I, 2821-

2744, coming away with threeclose wins. Southpaw Matt

Burzynski’s 199-212-236-647
