THIS DOCUMENT INTRODUCES THE NEW FEATURES RELEASED IN M2M CAPTURE VERSION 3.1 PUBLISHED IN MARCH 2020.

CAPTURE V3.1 IS COMPATIBLE WITH ALL GEKKO AND MANTIS UNITS DELIVERED OR UPGRADED SINCE JUNE 2017, PLEASE REFER TO THE RELEASE NOTE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

NEW 3.1 FEATURES FOR

FMC/TFM ENHANCEMENT

How does it work• The FMC-Elementary mode is the standard FMC excitation for

which each element in the array (N elements) is successivelyused as the transmitter, while all elements are used as receiversfor each transmitted pulse

• In Sectorial mode, all the elements of the array are usedsimultaneously to form a sectorial scan with M angles

• This increases productivity as long as the number ofangles M is less than N

• This can lead to an increase of sensitivity as all theelements are fired simultaneously

• If elementary data is saved (Recording Panel), theamount of data is less M x N verses N x N for FMC

Plane Wave Imaging (PWI) transmission mode for FMC/TFM (1/3)

In the TFM settings panel, there is a new FMC/TFM available called “PWI - Sectorial”. This mode is available from any TFM wizardand TFM application and remains compatible with all PA probe geometries (linear, matrix, DLA and DMA) on GEKKO units.

Custom PWI mode• In Custom mode, press the wheel to access the advanced setup :

• Adjust the initial and final angles the same way as a sectorial scanwith PAUT

• Increase the angle step to improve productivity as the number ofangles M decreases but sensitivity can potentially decrease

• At the opposite, decrease the angle step to increase sensitivitywhile limiting the productivity

Dedicated to direct TFM reconstruction mode in v3.1, additional options allows to use the default setup or to adjust manually the anglestep and coverage to optimize your PWI setup.

The expected scan speed is directly related to the number of beams generated – visible in grey when adjusting parameters in custom mode.

Standard PWI mode• Min and max angles are set to get a full coverage of the ROI

• The default angle step is 6°



Achievable speeds

• A 25-mm (1 in) V-weld inspection using a 64L5-G probe with a SW55

• PWI with 6 angles between 42 and 82°

• 92 kpixels - respecting the amplitude fidelity ASME requirements

• Elementary FMC 16mm/s

• Elementary FMC - Fast mode: 55 mm/s

• PWI – sectorial 135 mm/s



As PWI remains a FMC/TFM technique, all calibration wizards and acquisition modes available with elementary FMC remaincompatible in PWI.

PWI allows to use FMC/TFM at industrial scan speed for the most common application cases.

• The pixel size in mm or inch is displayed rather than the numberof pixels per mm/in.

• The pixel size with respect to the wavelength is now displayedtogether with the theoretical Amplitude Fidelity

The theoretical Amplitude Fidelity is only based on the frequency ofthe transducer and theoretical models. It is similar to what can befound on other portable TFM system and doesn’t take into accountthe real parameters.

For that the Amplitude Fidelity wizard should be used – see nextslide

Scan speed information is also available in 3.1 from the TFM settings panel, after pressing the wheel button located top right – see next feature section


TFM setup information

For all FMC/TFM modes, more relevant information are now displayed in the TFM options tab.

What is amplitude fidelity?

• Amplitude fidelity is a criterion that defines if the TFM image isproperly discretized to preserve amplitude information, i.e. thepixels that compose the TFM image are small enough to properlymeasure the signal peak amplitude.

• ASME V states that amplitude fidelity shall be preserved to 2dB orless, and that the process applied to check this fidelity be includedin the qualified procedure. Other standards require 2dB ifamplitude is used for sizing and 4dB if sizing does not rely on theabsolute amplitude of the signal.

Grid verification wizard - Amplitude Fidelity (1/3)

In the TFM options settings, there is a new assistant called Grid Verification allowing to check the amplitude fidelity of the TFM image.The grid verification wizard is accessible for all TFM modes (including PWI) and compatible for both Gekko and Mantis.

How does it work?• It follows the guidance of the international code ISO-DIS-23865. The

probe is stationary and must detect a SDH row. Twenty TFM grids arecalculated and shifted with a step of λ/20 along a vertical or horizontaldirection (all parameters can be manually adjusted if pressing the wheelbutton)

• For every calculation, the max amplitude of each SDH is recorded.

• At the end of the 20 calculations, the system tells if the grid choicerespects or not the Amplitude tolerance of 2 dB (or 4 dB). If not, theoperator needs to readjust the pixel size or any impacting paramter

• As requested by standards, Capture provides the complete table with theamplitude calculated for all 20 positions

The ISO document indicates that 3 tables has to be produced at 3 different locations of the ROI (left, middle, right) which can be achieved with just 3 different calculations in Capture 3.1.

The amplitude fidelity criteria is linked to most probe and TFM grid parameters and shall be achieved after any probe or grid sizemodification.



How to proceed ?• Maintain the probe position still on a block with side drilled holes at

several depths

• Adjust the gate threshold and gain to detect correctly every reflectorin the echodynamic view (linked to the gate position)

Warning : the max peak detection is looking for all max amplitude withina tolerance (to avoid too many peak detection). For this reason, the gatethreshold must exclude all non-relevant signals (as illustrated beside)

• Adjust computation parameters if necessary (2dB or 4dB criteria…)and press Compute

• Make sure you keep the probe at a fixed position during thecalculation which can take between a few seconds up to 1 minute

If the amplitude difference of the SDH is very high, grid verification can be achieved hole per hole to avoid loosing or detecting wrong echoes during the verification process.

The amplitude fidelity criteria is linked to most probe and TFM grid parameters and shall be achieved after any probe or grid sizemodification.



• For grids with less than 65 kpixels, the software has beenoptimized to provide an extra 50% in scanning speed

• This is compatible with all TFM modes including Fast mode andPWI

• This is perfect for the inspection of thin components or forcorrosion mapping application for which the image resolution isless of a concern

Speed improvement for grids with less than 65kpixels

Mantis does not benefit from the TFM scan speed optimizations.

For GEKKO units, computation optimizations have been done to increase the scan speed in TFM for resolution lower than 65k pixels.



ERGONOMICS & SETUP ENHANCEMENT

Data file management

New Capture offers the possibility to select multiple files to move, delete and export to manage easily both application and data files;.

How to access to the file management mode ?

• Press the “check list” button located in the bottom banner of theHome page

• When selected, every file and folder can now be selected

• Multiple files can be selected for delete, to cut and paste them intoanother folder or to export them on a USB stick

• It makes data file manipulation faster and easier

• Press again on the check list button to come back to the defaultfile presentation

Press select all to export, move or delete all of your existing files.


Entry echo straightening

What it offers?

• This tool straightens the front surface echo for inspections done witha water column (immersion, Rscan Array, Roller probes, softwedge…) and adjusts the 0mm / 0 inch value in the E-Scan view forall beams and get a smoother display

How it works ?

• In the gate panel, when using synchro gates a new “A-Scan synchro”parameter is activable

• It will only straighten E-Scan and D-Scan display based on the synchrogate detection and does not affect C-Scan data quality

• When A-Scan Synchro is ON, the synchro gate becomes hidden andsynchro gate parameters cannot be changed

The front surface echo can now be straightened for immersion inspection to smooth and clarify the view display using linear and duallinear L0 inspections with synchro gates.

Warning : if A-Scan synchro is ON, actual surface variation ormisalignment may be visually straightened and can lead to wrongdiagnosis.


Synchronized TCG

What it offers?

• For corrosion and composite inspections using a water column (RscanArray and Roller probes), the water height can vary based on thepressure applied on the probe leading echoes to move up and down

• This type of inspections is usually done with a synchronized gate onthe front surface echo

• The TCG needs to be synchronized as well to compensate amplitudeinside the material

• Synchronized TCG is available with basic TCG only

Capture 3.1 allows synchronization of the TCG to the front surface echo when synchronization gates are defined.

Allows to apply constant amplitude compensation even when thewater column varies


Heat Affected Zone (HAZ)

In the Component panel, it is now possible to add the HAZ to the definition of the weld for plates and pipe geometries.

How to adjust the HAZ display

• In the Specimen Weld tab, a new HAZ activation button isnow visible when a weld is enabled

• When the HAZ is ON :

• HAZ can be set along the chamfer or vertically

• HAZ width can be defined for both cases

• The HAZ appears on the 3D view, Sscan, Escan and TFMimages

Makes it easier to adjust the scan plan to cover the HAZ


Calibration status information

What it offers?

• In each panel where a calibration wizard is accessible, acheckbox indicates the status of the calibration wizard :ckecked is valid, else unchecked

• The status of each calibration (material velocity, elementcheck, wedge delay calibration, encoder, amplitudeFidelity…) is also displayed on the Equipment and Settingmenus in green to show if the calibration was done

• When modifying a parameters that impacts the calibrationvalue, the calibration status will be reset automatically.Calibration status is also re-init when loading a newequipment.

Calibration status are visible in the inspection report in analysis.

In Capture 3.1, for each setup and application the calibration status is now recorded and can be checked easily at any time of theinspection.


Enhanced PRF setup and scan speed info

What it offers?• In all panels where the PRF setting is available (Settings, Motion

résumé and inspection menu), the information of max inspectionscan speed is now displayed.

• In TFM it helps the operator to adjust the number of pixels thatmatches best the productivity he wishes to reach

• It is now possible to set a different PRF per group as well tooptimize each group to avoid phantom echoes

• If TCG done for 1 PA group at a specific TCG value, the PRF for another group can be optimized without changing the PRF of the firstgroup

For PA + TOFD inspection, it is often necessary to reduce PRFfor the TOFD group(s) while setting PA PRF to an high value tooptimized the scan speed and avoid ghost echoes.

Capture 3.1. allows to set a different PRF for each group and to visualize at any time the effect on the inspection scan speed..


Other optimizations

• Modifications done in analysis are kept when going back to setup

• Cursors have two colors to make them more visible

• “Save As” in Analysis, after modifications in Analysis (layout, gain…) it is possible to save the file under another name

• Encoders can be different type (quadrature and clock+dir) when using two encoders

• (Selection zone for TOF and depth Cscan looks for the minimum thickness and not the max amplitude=> indication table)

• Default mechanical view display (C-Scan, D-Scan..) allows to visualize the missed data whatever the total length of the inspectionis

• Longitudinal pipe inspection orientation now supports angle wedges with a front length that can be different from half the totalwedge length

• Nozzle probe positioning now works with front wedge reference

• And more



ANALYSIS ENHANCEMENT

Enhanced readings banner (1/2)

The banners with indicators has been redesigned to improve visibility and flexibility and many additional measurements and readingsare now available.

What is new ?- Up to now, 4 readings were available in the banner. 4 more

readings have been added allowing to view more informationduring acquisition and analysis – click double arrow to display

- Readings are now link to the current view or group per default

- The names of the indicators have been changed to be moreexplicit about what they represent

If using Capture on a PC with a high screen resolution, the 8readings can be visible on top of the screen.

Enhanced readings banner (2/2)

The readings banner has been redesigned as Capture 3.1 provides a lot more readings to help operators for daily inspection and dataanalysis.

How to configure new measurement- Press on a reading to display the reading setup

- Readings can be rearranged into Categories and Applications toaccess quickly to any measurement :

- Amplitude, Cursor, Peak/Flank position and Statistics forCategories

- Composite, Corrosion, TOFD and Weld for Applications

- The indicator information and option depends on the type ofindication selected

- choose a cursor or measurement between 2 cursors if readingsbased on cursor(s)

- choose a specific gate or a gate difference if reading based onpeak/flank information

- choose the unit for the reading display

- A definition of the selected measurement appears in the grey area

Readings banner can be saved and reopened using the open andsave buttons


Enhanced table of indications (1/3)

A new “Sizing” mode has been created to clarify and simplify indication creation and speed up the analysis process.

How to access to the enhanced indication table- A new “Sizing” mode is now available in analysis to manage all indications

and measurements

- Press the mode button selection located in the bottom left corner inanalysis then select “Sizing”

- Press the Mode button located on the Gekko or Mantis front paneland select “Sizing” mode

- The sizing mode allows to create new indication manually or using theauto-sizing mode

- Press the indcatio table button (see beside) to open the enhancedindication table

All previous indication created remain compatible with the enhancedindication table.



The table of indications has been completely redesigned to offer more flexibility and provide all information requested by mostinspection procedures.

How to edit the indication table- Indications organized in a table

- Possibility to order the indications by scan start, depth

- Possibility to select and export in excel the indication table

- All indication information can be added to the table report

- The Table is fully customizable to meet all operators needs,press “Table setup” to edit the table

When doing analysis on a PC, the indication table can bedisplayed without hiding Capture data and analysis panel.



The table of indications has been completely redesigned to show more information.

How it works- Similar way to configure the table as for the readings :

- Select to column to modify the value

- Press and slide in the white area to scroll the table display

- Organize and filter the measurements per application or percategory

- All measurements are link to the peak/flank signal detected in theindication box or to its position (scan start, height…) allowing tocreate a full inspection report

- You can add a new column, delete or move the current selection : alimit of 10 measurement is present for Capture CPN, no limitation forCapture PRO

It is possible to save or load an existing indication template for fasterindication table setup.


Add indication from cursors

When displaying the 3 cursors, it is now possible to create an indication based on cursor Reference and Measure positions.

How to create an indication from cursors

- Display the 3 cursors and go to the cursor mode

- Adjust the Measure and Reference cursors on all necessary views usingbased on your sizing procedure (-6dB, tip diffraction…)

- Click the “Add indication” button located in the bottom-right corner of thecursor mode

Once done, an indication will appear on all related views and be added in theindication table.

Indications created from cursors are automatically included in theindication table and remain adjustable manually.


Indication auto-sizing -XdB

Capture Pro allows to measure automatically indications along the scan and index axis using – X dB rules

Allows very quick sizing of indications when dimensioningamplitude based.

How it works

- When the auto mode is available (Capture PRO only), press auto-sizing ON before to create the indication will apply automatically theauto-sizing criterias

The auto-sizing function adjusts automatically the size of the selectionzone around the defect respecting the criteria in amplitude selected bythe operator (set to -6 dB by default)

- This function automatically adds the indication to the Table ofindications, the size of the selection zone can be selected in thetable

How to adjust the auto-sizing parameters

- It is possible for the operator to choose the criterionamplitude in both directions (scan and index) using eitherthe maximum amplitude in the selected zone or thereference amplitude of the TCG (80% for example)

Thickness and overlay color edition

It is now possible to edit the thickness of the part in analysis for plate and pipe geometries and the color of the overlay for all types ofcomponents.

How it works

- Press the mode button (located bottom-left) or select theSpecimen mode using the Mode physical button of your unit

- Adjusting the thickness will modify the true-depth readings orindication measurements accordingly

- The overlay color allows to pick the right color depending on thecolor palette choice

- The default overlay color can be defined in the UT preferencepanel accessible from the Capture Home page

Thckness edition in analysis gives more flexibility and allows toset the correct thickness value based on the actual geometryecho position.


Save reports as Excel files

Capture 3.1 allows users to export their inspection report as a excel file additionally to pdf format;

How to generate a report in excel

- From the inspection report preview in analysis, press the saveor export button then select excel to record or transfer theinspection report in excel format

- By exporting to an Excel compatible format, users will be ableto edit very easily their reports

Full customization of the report easier to bring.


3D Data export

Capture 3.1 allows export of the data into the 3D view of the component

Quick view of the data in 3D, great for reporting

What it offers?

- Up to 3.0, users could see the Sscan, Escan or Tscan in the3D view of the component. It is now possible to export all data

- The button is accessible from the 3D view

- After export, it is possible to adjust the dynamic of the colorpalette to display more or less data based on amplitude

- The export is limited to the parts managed by Capture (plate,pipe, nozzle and fillet. More parts will be added in the future


C-Scan data stitching

Capture Pro allows stitching of various inspection files done a in L0 configuration or TFM with 2-encoded axis or using 1-encoded axis+ increment.

What’s possible?

- The operator can select various files, Capture displays in green filesthat are compatible with the first file selected

- Once selected, click on Merge to create a new file that merges theselected files

- The tool is compatible with PAUT files done at 0° (corrosion,composite…) and TFM inspection

Merging inspection files allow to analyze completely the inspection of anasset

When opening multiple Capture session on PC, it allows to adjusteasily scan or index offsets before to stich the data.


APPENDIX - CAPTURE PRO

• A new version of Capture called Capture Pro is now available.

• It is a version that offers advanced Analysis tools, to provide more in-depth analysis features within Captureenvironment. Users familiar with Capture will easily navigate through the interface for their data processing.

• Version 3.1 includes these following advanced analysis features :

• Advanced indication table : more than 10 columns available• Cscan stitching for corrosion and composite applications• 3D data export to visualize the data in the 3D of the component (plate, pipe, nozzle and fillet weld)• Autosizing at – x dB
