Treaty of Versailles
• Treaty: A formal agreement between 2 or more countries
The Treaty of Versailles was signed in France. This treaty officially ended the war and spelled out the punishment for Germany.

• Germany agreed to the following:• Signing the “Guilt Clause”
• This means that Germany admitted being guilty of starting the war
• Giving back land and colonial possessions• During the war, Germany conquered land
previously belonging to France and Belgium. According to the treaty, Germany had to give it all back

•This literally meant paying cash to these countries for the damage done by Germany during the war. The amount is estimated to be in the hundreds of billions of dollars.
