Channel One Community Garden Dedication On Sunday morning April 22nd, Channel One’s Directors Ursula Olsen and Jennifer
Woodford, along with CPC Mission Chair Ronda Marshall, dedicated the Channel One Garden
in a ribbon cutting ceremony with CPC Members. The children (right) also planted two Lilac
Bushes in the Parking islands in celebration of the new Channel One Garden. The
commemorative poem below, written by MariLynn Johnson, was sung by the gathered
congregation to the tune Blest Be The Tie That Binds.
“Blessing of the Gardens”
by MariLynn Johnson
Bless Lord all souls in need-
All those in Hunger feed!
This land we offer here to share
In gladness and with prayer
Bless Lord Thy fertile earth-
Send rain to give seed birth;
As plants are reaching toward the sun,
The war on hunger won!
Soon the 15 families selected by Channel One will sow seeds and tend their 25’ x 25’garden
plots. This will be a way that CPC helps out the local community by sharing our land.

From the Pastor: Painting, Planning, and Planting
18Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. 19I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way
in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43: 18-19
Christ is Risen! Indeed! And spring has sprung in our gardens and
in our hearts here at CPC. New signs of growth are popping up
everywhere! And God has been doing "new things" right here!
I hope you have noted the improvements taking place in our
sanctuary! Thanks to the leadership of our Worship and Music
Committee and their months of intricate planning, we will soon
be finished with Phase One of our re-decorating of our sanctuary
aka The Great Room! The warm colors already have an impact on
our worship and the beauty of this setting. Friends have
exclaimed; “Wow, the windows seemed to be beautifully framed
now by the new wall color!” and “It's so warm and inviting.” The
new protective wall strip and the handrail will complete our re-
decorating, which began at Christmas with the installation of the
lovely lamps. This took big efforts on the part of so many people,
including our Building and Grounds folk who also helped
improve our air-conditioning and provided more wiring for our
sound and technical use of the Great Room.
We also now have 2 gardens: The Garden of Life is blooming so
beautifully and was a great setting for our Easter Sunrise Service!
We also have cut the ribbon to dedicate our new Channel One
Garden, which offers small garden plots where local families in
need can grow their own fresh vegetables! Soon we'll welcome
daily Channel One visitors who will come and tend their gardens
with care.
And even with all that activity and more, our Session is working
diligently in their areas of ministry and planning our healthy
future as a congregation. Keep an eye out for the Congregational
Survey that will be available mid-May to Mid-June, as we begin
to assemble our profile of how we believe God is calling us to
live out our future as a vibrant church along with your next
pastor!
Our life of faith was birthed in the "Garden" of Eden, we have
lived through the challenges of the Garden of Gethsemane, and
now we are seeing new growth in the gardens of our souls and
our community life. Please join in planting the Good News of
Christ's Love in our world. God has promised " I will make a
way!"
Peace be with you, Teresa

WISH YOU WELL by David
Baldacci
When their father was killed and their mother
seriously injured in a car accident, 12 year old
Lou Cardinal and her 7 year old brother Oz, were
forced to move from NYC to the mountains of
Southwestern Virginia to live with their great-
grandmother. WISH YOU WELL, a departure
from David Balducci’s usual ‘thriller’ books is,
in part, an oral history of both where and how his
mother grew up. Join us in the church library for
this final discussion of our 2011-2012 season.
