Prelude (Saturday & 10:30) “Break Thou the Bread of Life” (arr. Jordan & Parks)

“O Bread of Life from Heaven” (arr. Hokanson & Leupold)

Welcome and introduction of the theme of the day.

Invocation, Confession and Forgiveness

In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

(Silence is kept for reflection)

Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and

of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Hymn “Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound”

Prayer of the Day O Lord God, enliven and preserve your church with your perpetual mercy. Without your help, we mortals will fail; remove far from us everything that is harmful, and lead us toward all that gives life and salvation, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Profession of Faith I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church. Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God? Response: I renounce them. Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God? Response: I renounce them. Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God? Response: I renounce them.

Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Welcome We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God's creative and redeeming word to all the world.

Psalm Psalm 107:1-9 1Give thanks to the LORD, for the LORD is good, for God’s mercy endures forever. 2Let the redeemed of the LORD proclaim that God redeemed them from the hand of the foe, 3gathering them in from the lands; from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. 4Some wandered in desert wastes; they found no path to a city where they might dwell. 5They were hungry and thirsty; their spirits languished within them. 6Then in their trouble they cried to the LORD, and you delivered them from their distress. 7You led them on a straight path to go to a city where they might dwell. 8Let them give thanks to you, LORD, for your steadfast love and your wonderful works for all people. 9For you satisfy the thirsty soul and fill the hungry with good things.

Lesson 1 Corinthians 10:31 – 11:1 31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. 32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, so that they may be saved. 11:1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

Theme Hymn “Taste and See” (Based on Psalm 34:8)

Gospel Luke 5:27-32 27After this Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, "Follow me." 28And he got up, left everything, and followed him. 29Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house; and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them. 30The Pharisees and their scribes were complaining to his disciples, saying, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" 31Jesus answered, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; 32I have come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance." This is the Gospel of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

God’s Work. Our Hands. RALLY DAY

Be sure to join us Sunday (Sept. 20) and Wednesday (Sept. 23) for Rally Day and God's Work. Our Hands!

Students and teachers will celebrate coming back together with fun outdoor activities (weather permitting)!

As we approach a new way of serving this fall, a variety of God's Work. Our Hands "take home kits" will be available for individuals and families in the Great Hall!

We're also looking for helpers to deliver gift bags to 100 households on Sunday (Sept. 20).

We hope you'll break out those bright yellow God's Work. Our Hands shirts -- and help us "Be The Light" on Sept. 20 and 23!
