WhenXDrive went bankrupt in 2001, he andDeWolfe founded directmarketing company ResponseBase. They sold ResponseBase to BradGreenspans eUniverse in late 2002. 5. With other eUniverse employees, Anderson set up thefirst pages of Myspace in August 2003. Myspace became one of the mostpopular social networking websites in the United States(listing in slot no. 129 of Alexa Top 500 Global Sites asof November 2011). Fortune reported in 2006 that"Anderson is automatically the first friend of anyonewho joins MySpace, and as the public face of theoperation, hes photographed with celebrities atcompany bashes, approached for autographs on thestreet, and deluged with e-mails fromusers." Journalist Julia Angwin, author of StealingMySpace, wrote that "I think Tom is sort of the soul ofthe site". In September 2008, he had 237,991,950"friends". 6. Anderson became president of Intermix Media, thesuccessor of eUniverse, when it was sold to NewsCorp. Anderson said of working for News Corp that"Before, I could do whatever I wanted. Now it takesmore time to get people to agree on things. All thebudget reviews and processes. That can be a pain. Butits not stopping us." His workaholic nature at Myspacewas noted by several journalists. He made tens of millions of dollars from thecompany. Reuters quoted an unnamed News Corpexecutive as saying that "Tom was responsible for theproduct but ended up being a complete bottleneck ongetting things done", but Business Week reported that"Under Andersons leadership, the products divisionintroduced a dizzying number of features". He wasreplaced as president in April 2009 by News Corp; 7. Anderson now says he is "enjoying beingretired" and is active on other socialnetworks, includingFacebook, Twitter (with nearly 200,000followers in mid 2011),and Google+ (ranking 10th by number offollowers in December 2011). There are also plenty of good things aboutMyspace. example: It is a wonderful place to chat withfriends. People can figure out what theirweekend plans are with friends, ask forhomework help, and even discover fun newsongs. Myspace originally was a datingservice and is still used for that purpose. It is also possible to make friends withpeople from all over the world onMyspace. You can chat and compare how 12. As long as people are responsible andsmart about what they say and poston Myspace, then it is truly a harmlesssite.
