Situation

• Luanco is village and the capital of council of Gozón, in Asturias. It is located between Candás and Avilés and is very near to Cabo Peña.

History

• During the Spanish War of Independence, the French occupied Luanco in 1809 and in 1811 causing severe damage to the town.

• In the 19th century Luanco became a tourism place.

• During the Spanish Civil War suffered Franco's army blockade by sea, since the summer of 1936, and lived the evacuation in October 1937 the Government of Asturias and most of the Republican Army of the North, along with other ports between Gijon and Aviles, decreed by Belarmino Tomás.

• With the construction of factories Ensidesa in Avilés and Gijón Veriña, Gozon acquires bedroom town features. From the 60's and 70’s starts mass tourism, especially from the inside of Asturias, growing considerably and building urban second home developments.

Gastronomy

• The most famous food is the marañuela. It’s a type of cookie very hard and with a shell or loop form.

• But anyone knows the true place of origin the marañuela, because people from Candás say that the marañuela is originally from Candás and people from Luanco say the opposite.

• Luanco’s kitchen works mainly witch asturian products like local seafood or splendid fishes.

THE BEACH

• Luanco is a sailor town.

• The main beach is very small.

• It is in the town.

• It is protected with a port and it`s a very quiet beach.

• In 1995 was done a bigger beach and fill it with sand extracted from the sea.

• In 2012 it got the blue flat.

THE CHURCH

ITS NAME IS SANTA MARIA

IT´S A CATHOLIC CHURCH, HISTORIC ARTISTIC MONUMENT

Its structure is a single nave divided into four sections

There is a great contrast between the sober Baroque exterior and interior with rich altarpieces

• THE CURRENT WATCH WAS INSTALLED IN 1920

IT WAS OPENED IN 1948 AND IS DEDICATED TO THE SEA, SO THE MARINE SPECIES AS THE FISH
