I. Introduction: Code switching is rapid momentary shifting from one language to another within a conversation. A. It acts as a strategy for background involving the change of topic, motivation involving directives and offers, “solutionhood” and elaboration or discussion of the topic due to purpose, condition, circumstances and concession. B. It is used to lighten up serious topics and to recognize the ability of the writer or speaker to use more than one language. C.
