Language Literacy and Communication• Task 1Read the book Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae

https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/rumble-in-the-jungle/

Encourage your child to listen out for the rhyming words, do they recognise the rhythm in the words, can they tell which words rhyme?

When you read again pause before you say the rhyming word, can they fill in the missing rhyming words?

Encourage your child to learn their favourite poem from the story and perform it, they can add actions or sound effects. If they're happy to be recorded we would love to see a video.

Challenge – can they think of 3 words that rhyme with snake?

• Task 2Choose your favourite animal from the book, encourage your child to draw a picture and write words or sentences to describe their chosen animal, think about colour, size, where they live, the noise they make.

Mathematical Development• Task 1

Patterned Pythons! In the story there is a slippery, slithery snake!

Can you make your own snake?

Draw out a snake shape or download an outline.

Can you make a repeating pattern on your snake using finger paints or colouring it in?

You could carry on a pattern that your grown up has started. You could challenege yourself by

using 3 or 4 colours!

Task 2

Build your own Animal!

Let's practise our 2D shapes!

This week we would like you to recap the names of 2D shapes and learn about how they fit

together to make different shapes and pictures.

Cut and arrange 2D shapes to create your own animal, it could be a real animal or a made-up

creature!

You can print off 2D shapes or draw your own.

Personal, Social Development and Wellbeing• Task 1

• If you were an animal, what would you be?

• Read 'Rumble in the Jungle' again and think carefully about each of the animals and what they are like.

• Which animal are you most like? Are you brave like a lion, cheeky like a chimpanzee or thoughtful like an elephant?

• Have a chat with your family, what animal would they say you were and why? What animal would your family be?

• Perhaps you would be a mixture of different animals?

• Share your ideas creatively, you could make a video clip, use the Chatterpix Kids app, make a poster or just enjoy the discussion together!

• Task 2

Cody the Cautious Caterpillar

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zcqzXFG_ng

In this story Cody is worried about changing into a butterfly. Change can be scary, but it can be a good thing too as Cody found out!

Lots of things have changed and are changing at the moment. Have a chat together after listening to the story. Encourage your child to share any worries and remind them that change can be a good thing too!

Check in days........Some of us are back to school next week to take part in 'Check in Days' with our class-mates and teachers, some of us will be in school with key worker children and some of us will be staying at home continuing to do an important job. Have a look together at some of these clips and stories and discuss with your child about possible changes over the next couple of weeks.

Dr Ranj explains about the Coronavirus in this short clip:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p08bmd70/get-well-soon-coronavirus

We all need to remember how important it is to wash our hands, cough and sneeze into tissues or our elbows like batman and listen carefully to the teachers we are with. Look through these stories about coming back to school and talk about any questions you may have with your grown-ups.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/when-you-come-back-to-school-eyfs-returning-after-lockdown-powerpoint-t-tp-2549978

It is going to be very important that we are super handwashers, have a go at this activity reminding us of what we need to do, washing with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds. Practise washing your hands at home with your grown- ups.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-tp-5353-eyfs-washing-your-hands-sequencing-activity-sheet

This experiment shows you how important using soap is, watch this clip and have a go yourselves, you need pepper, water, a bowl and some soap.
