Language Literacy and Communication• Task 1• Read/Listen to the story 'What the Ladybird Heard' by

Julia Donaldson

We are going to think about the different animals that live on the farm. Can you name them?

This week we would like you to do some research, can you find out facts about the different animals (choose one or more if you would like to) maybe learn -

• about the animals and their young

• where they live on the farm

• what do they need to be fed

• what do they produce for us to buy, eat, wear?

Please make a fact poster, draw a picture and write about the animal you choose or ask a grown up to help you.

A Twinkl matching activity to help you learn about the animals and their young

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-t-5679-mothers-and-their-young-farm-animals-matching-activity

• Task 2Play a game of What am I?

Choose an animal from the story and using describing words and special clues see if your child can guess the animal you're describing.

See if your child can attempt some clues once you

have modelled the game.

Challenge: Have a picture of the animal you are and see if your child can ask appropriate questions to find out which animal you are holding. Remember to model it yourself first.

Personal, Social Development and Wellbeing

• Task 1

In the story Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh try to steal the fine prize cow!

Think about stealing; what is stealing?

What does it mean?

Why is it wrong?

How would you feel if someone stole your favourite toy?

What happens to people who steal from other people?

Have a chat together and decide if the thieves in the story were right or wrong. What should happen to

them?

• Task 2

My hands are kind and helpful!

1. Paint across your hand in the colours of the rainbow and print it onto a piece of

plain paper to make a handprint. Alternatively, you can draw around your

hand and colour it in rainbow colours!

2. At the end of each fingertip, write the name of each person / pet you have helped

whilst you have been at home.

3. Choose 2 people / pets that you have written the names of and write a sentence

describing how you have helped them. Start each sentence with 'I was kind and

helped....... to.....'

Physical Development• Task 1

Let's try some throwing and catching activities this week

Catching – count how many times you can throw and catch the ball successfully, keep a score and see if you can beat your score the next time you try.

Clapping Catch- Try throwing and catching a soft object, between throwing and catching it see if you can clap your hands.

If you succeed at this, challenge yourself with another action like a jump or spin around.

• Task 2Have a go at creating some games to help us learn to

roll a ball

Bottle Bowling – collect some empty plastic bottles, set the bottles out like you are ten pin bowling, stand an achievable distance away and roll the ball to see how many you knock down.

Target Tubs – find a range of empty boxes, containers. Put them on their side so an object can be rolled into them. Use different sized balls, stand at an achievable distance away and see if you can roll the ball into one of the containers. You can add points to each container to challenge number recognition and totalling points.

Welsh Language DevelopmentLast week we used 'Ga i...' to ask for our snacks! This week let's extend this by using 'Ga i...' to ask for everything we need! E.g. 'Ga i pencil?' 'Ga i story?' 'Ga iwatch the telly?'

Again, don't worry about using the English words, as long as you practise the 'Ga i' phrase.

When someone asks us 'Ga i...?' we can respond with 'Dyma ti!' Meaning 'there you are!'

Ga i food? Dyma ti!

Topic (creative and Knowledge and Understanding)

Can you be a music maker? Can you make up a song which includes lots of animal sounds?

Watch the video below of Julia Donaldson performing 'What the Ladybird Heard' with her husband to get some ideas.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NbyiDpY6Ww

Maybe you have some instruments you would like to use? Or some items from around the house that you could make music with?

Perhaps you would like to sing? Maybe your family would like to join in!

We can't want to see your creations! Share them with us on the Seesaw Class app!

Phonics (Miss Douthwaite and Miss Jones' Group)We would like to recap the sounds that we have covered so far.

These are:

s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, f, l, ll, ss, j, v, w, x, y, z, qu, sh, ch, th, ng.

Create some flashcards, one with each sound written on them. Alternatively flashcards can be downloaded from Twinkl where the sounds needed can be selected.

Go through the cards with your child, checking that they can recognise and read each sound and give a word containing that sound.

Keep a pile of sounds that your child struggles with, and practise them using some of the ideas here:

Remember to use lowercase letters at this stage.

Display the sounds around the house for your children to become familiar with! You could have sound hunt! Or play fastest finger first- who can find the sound!

Create baskets for each sound –what could you put into your basket that starts with or contains each sound?

Chalk the sounds on the floor / on a big piece of paper – can you jump on the correct sound?

Use toilet roll tubes and label them with the sounds you are focussing on. You can use these to play skittles and see which sounds you knock down! You could even use them to build words too!
