The Cracked Pot

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the endsof a pole which she carried across her neck. One of the pots had acrack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a fullportion of water. At the end of the long walks from the stream to thehouse, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing homeonly one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proudof its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of itsown imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it hadbeen made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to thewoman one day by the stream, "I am ashamed of myself, because thiscrack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to yourhouse."

The old woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on yourside of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because 1 havealways known about your flaw, so 1 planted flower seeds on your side ofthe path, and every day while we walk back, you water them. For twoyears 1 have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate thetable. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be thisbeauty to grace the house."

The author of The Cracked Pot is unknown; yet the wisdom that it holdsis displayed in our lives daily though God's working in and through us!

Welcome to our new Youth Minister!We want to welcome Brother Bartley Williams as our new youthminister to the Middle School and High School students, as of thecongregational meeting June 3rd. Bartley is a teacher at BanksCounty Middle School and resides in Commerce with his wife, Hope,and two daughters Ansley and Addy Kate. We are excited about theplans God has for the Erastus Christian Church youth through theleadership of our new youth minister, Bartley Williams. Please prayfor Bartley and his family as they begin a new ministry at Erastus!
