2014 ACURA MDX

Part Construction: Styled and brushed 304 stainless steel plate clinched to injection molded polypropylene base. Part is attached to the vehicle bumper via 4 ratchet clips and 3M foam tape.

Design Key Points:• Easy Installation – Ratchet clips and foam tape allow the part to be installed without removing the rear bumper. This reduces installation time and cost by approximately 50%. (Installation typically billed at $100 per hour)• Thermal Expansion – Part was designed to accommodate polypropylene’s high rate of thermal expansion vs. stainless steel. This ensures the part does not warp or gap at extreme temperatures.

Part Construction: Die cut carpet with molded rubber backing, all edges serged. Machine embroidered MDX logo is attached via sonic weld.

Design Key Point:• UV Stability – Part testing revealed rapid fading of the MDX logo. This required a quick re-sourcing to UV stable embroidery thread.

2014 ACURA MDX

Part Construction: Vacuum formed TPR. Hand cut and de-burred.

Design Key Points:• Material VE – Supported material testing to prove out an equivalent lower cost sheet material. (Flammability, UV Stability, Abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, etc.) Cost reduction saved approximately $1.00 per part.• Logo Distortion – Prototype parts revealed excessively rounded edges on “MDX” logo due to vacuum form process. Worked closely with styling department to resize and relocate logo to improve appearance.

Part Construction: Vacuum formed TPR. Hand cut and de-burred. Folding variant produced off of standard tooling via insert.

2014 HONDA ODYSSEY

Part Construction: Cut and sewn vinyl with fully bound edges. Attached to vehicle via ABS clips and coated wire hooks.

Design Key Point:• Rapid Redesign – Able to accommodate a “last minute” styling change request by redesigning the part and completing testing in less than one month. The part’s in-warehouse delivery date was met. (Actual part differs from the catalog photo shown, with an improved appearance)

2015 ACURA TLX

Part Construction: Injection molded TPE, with over molded TPE logo and POM grommets. 4 variants include USA 2WD, USA 4WD, Export 2WD and Export 4WD.

Design Key Point:• Pedal Stuck Check – Parts located near the vehicle’s pedals are evaluated with extreme scrutiny. Worked closely with vehicle interior and controls groups to minimize any risk of interference.

IN-TRUNK CARGO DIVIDERS

Part Construction: Injection Molded polypropylene.

Design Key Point:• Cost Reduction – Previous Honda cargo dividers use felt tape to improve fit and minimize rattle when installed. This tape adds costly post process degreasing and tape application. TLX parts are uniquely designed to fit without tape, becoming true “shoot and ship” parts.
