Wow, it’s almost the end of Term 2 and it seems to have flown! However, the next two weeks are event-filled with a theatre excursion for K-3, Jump Rope for Heart activities, our Gala Sports Day, Parent Teacher interviews and our day of celebrating aspects of Aboriginal culture on 29 th June. Oh, and quite a bit of learning, as well. There’s certainly plenty on between now and the holidays. The K-3 excursion to Cessnock Performing Arts Centre should be a great event. Kids love going to shows and it is a great learning experience as well. The older students in 4-6 will have their opportunity to experience a live show next term.) Our parent/teacher interviews have been set down for Monday, 25 th and Wednesday, 27 th June and a timetable will be sent home shortly. Please try to attend because this is our main formal reporting meeting for the year. Our Aboriginal Cultural Day lines up very well with NAIDOC Week and promises to be a lot of fun as well as very interesting and informative. Parents and friends are invited to attend and the day begins with an explanation of the smoking ceremony at 9.15am and concludes after lunch at 2pm. Jump Rope for Heart The children have been given their sponsorship forms. We realise that not every family will be involved in raising funds and we respect that, however, please return your sponsorship form as they need to be returned the Heart Foundation for legal and auditing purposes. Woolworths Earn and Learn The response to Woolworths Earn & Learn has been positive with many students bringing in the stickers cards. If you require further blank cards, please come into the office we have plenty. Coles Vouchers Paxton School has once again registered for the Coles Sports for Schools program which commenced yesterday. The collection box will be in the front office. Voluntary School Contribution (School “Fees”) Voluntary School Contribution fees have been set at $20 per single student at the school and $30 per family per year. These can be paid at the office. Many thanks to those families who have already finalised these accounts. Lost Property The office has a growing collection of lost property; jumpers, etc. Also, several children have lost school jackets, several with names on them. Could you please check your child’s clothing to ensure they have the correct clothing and return any misplaced items to the office. School Lunches Would you please discuss with your child the contents of their lunch boxes because we have noticed with the cooler weather, some children are still hungry.

Be fire safe this winter

Winter’s chill has arrived and with it our scramble

for heaters, electric blankets and open fires. Entertaining is now year round thanks to portable outdoor gas heaters. But with all these conveniences come fire dangers. Statistics reveal that almost half of all home fires are started in the kitchen and 43 per cent of all fire fatalities occur in

winter. NSW Fire and Rescue reminds us to do a fire safety audit of our homes this winter, check smoke detectors are working and ensure appliances such as clothes dryers and dishwashers are running efficiently and safely. For more household fact sheets and useful videos on how to protect your home and family from fire go to www.fire.nsw.gov.au/ School holidays sorted The school holidays are fast approaching. For great activities to keep the kids gainfully occupied check out the informative Go Play website which is full of ideas for kids aged up to 18 years. You can search by age, activity, region, date, time and by government organisation. Go to: www.goplay.nsw.gov.au

Student Banking Token Redemption Day

Due to the overwhelming success of School Banking, we are having one Token Redemption Day per term instead of kids bringing in their tokens at different times. The next Token Redemption Day will be Friday, 15

th June.

What do you need to do? Please bring in your 10 tokens and redemption coupon in with your child’s School Banking on 15

th June. If you need redemption coupons they are available

at the school office. We will then order the reward and have it back to your child as soon as we receive it. Notifications will be placed in the school newsletter to keep you posted on future redemption days.
