NEW MEMBER CLASS- Perhaps you hear God calling you to become a member of First Church, either by transfer or by confession of faith? You are invited to join the upcoming New Member Class! The class will meet on Sunday, March 8 from 9:30 - 10:30 AM; and Saturday, March 14 from 9 AM– Noon. The Reception of Membership will be celebrated during worship on March 15, 2020. During the class you will meet fellow believers, review the scope of God's presence in the Scriptures, recall the impact of John Wesley, and learn of the Means of Grace. Contact Pastor Joe ([email protected]), the Church office (717-394-7231), or Katherine Spear ([email protected]) to let us know that you will be part of this exciting opportunity. FIRST CHURCH LENTEN BIBLE STUDY “THE GRACE OF LES MISÉRABLES” Today begins our Lenten Bible study and sermon series based on the book “The Grace of Les Misérables”, by author and pastor Matt Rawle. The study uses the classic Les Misérables in a new way—through the lens of faith. Rawle dives into six themes found in the story—grace, justice, poverty, revolution, love, and hope—each represented by a character in Hugo’s story. As these imperfect and relatable characters interact, we can see how these ideas work together (perhaps even in spite of each other!) out in the world.

Our adult Sunday School classes are using the companion study during the 9:30 Sunday School hour, and Sisters in Faith small group invites anyone who would like to join them for the study on Thursday mornings at 10:30 AM at the church! Study books are available for purchase on the internet. There are also two copies of the movie “Les Misérables” available at the church office to borrow if you would like to watch the movie!

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Communion Hymns (Please sing one stanza for each kneeling table)

Break Thou the Bread of Life No. 599 Wonderful Words of Life No. 600 Come, Let Us Use the Grace Divine No. 606 O Thou Who This Mysterious Bread No. 613 Prayer after Communion

God of Grace, how amazing is it that each of our lives is so valuable to you that you would lay yours down to reach us through Jesus your Son. God of Mercy, no words can express our gratitude and amazement that you should die for us. May the bread and wine remain with us as we seek to take your message of love and grace into the world. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. *Hymn Take Time to Be Holy No. 395 *Blessing Dismissal As We Part for the Town and Cities (green hymnal) No. 3180

We are sure that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Thanks be to God! Amen. *Gloria Patri Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty (stanza 1) No. 64

Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
