Fall is coming

September | 2014

Spiritual growth and change happen when we’re in relationships with people who know us well. Connecting with others at Second Baptist is a way to build community and be transformed in your faith. The best way to connect is to jump in.

The 2BC Monthly LOOP is a broader edition of our 2BC Weekly LOOP, designed to give you a bit more detail about the the month ahead in our ministry. You’ll find information about upcoming events, classes, and serving opportunities to get you connected to 2BC. Keep this as a reference all month long so you can jump in often!

Additionally, be sure to get a copy of our 2BC Quarterly Loop, published in Aug|Dec|Mar|June. This edition offers a longer range planning view of our ministries and faith community in action. It provides a seasonal view of the key ministries within our church, ministry plans, and target dates for special initiatives, events and opportunities. All our LOOP publications are available in printed version in our Welcome Center or online at 2bcliberty.org/newsletters.

What is Stephen Ministry?Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one lay caring ministry that equips and empowers caregivers—called Stephen Ministers—to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting.

Stephen Ministry is appropriate for people experiencing: grief, divorce, cancer, hospitalization, physical rehabilitation, long-term care, chronic illness, terminal illness, job loss, loss of a home, military deployment, the onset of a disability, loneliness, spiritual crisis, or other life struggles.

Who are Stephen Leaders?Stephen Leaders are the pastors, other church staff, and lay leaders who direct Stephen Ministry in the congregation. They are equipped and inspired to serve in this role at a one-week Leader’s Training Course. Stephen Leaders have gifts and skills in areas such as leadership, teaching, and organizing people—along with a heart for caring ministry.

Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ

(Galatians 6:2, NRSV).

2BCin the loopKeeping You Student Handbell Choir | Sundays starting

Sept. 7 | 8:45 a.m.The 2BC Student Handbell Choir will begin rehearsals on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 8:45 a.m. in the Music Suite Room 501.

We are searching for students grades 8 through 12 to be a part of this fun group. Yes, it’s early on a Sunday morning, but we have a great time learning different musical styles and techniques, and contributing to worship. Prior musical experience (vocal, instrumental, keyboard) is helpful, but not necessary.

Interested? Know of someone who might be? Contact Christie White, director, at [email protected], 816-419-6990, or ask for her in the Music Suite before or after the Sunday morning service.

Comfort Drive for South Dakota | September 15–October 12 We will again be traveling to South Dakota in October with blankets and coats for the Lakota people. We give the comfort items to several Lakota pastors of the Dakota Association who distribute the items as needed. We have found that gently used heavier winter coats and blankets are the best.

In addition to the blankets and coats, we will also collect new athletic socks, which is a request from Arlys, the Bridger Community Health Worker. Many of the people, mainly the elderly, don’t go out as much during the long stretches of cold and often run out of propane for heat and wear socks to help keep warm in their homes. Place items in the black bins at the west, south and east doors.

childcare volunteers needed for mopsThe 2BC Mothers of Preschoolers group is in need of volunteers to care for children (infant through age 5) at church during MOPS meetings. This gives busy moms a much-needed break, and they are so appreciative!
