Library Highlights

New Art Work! Tiffany H. has been commissioned to create art work to display in the library. The National Art Honor Society member is painting popular book covers on canvas. She has completed her rendition of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and is now at work on Unwind by Neal Shusterman.Bulldog Booklovers Club Meeting Sept. 26th 3:30-4:30 Nineteen students and four adults attended our second meeting this year. Details about the new READissance initiative (prize: Color Nook and B&N $50 gift card) were shared and the books for our next meeting were announced (Once a Witch and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children). Members were once again given the chance to be the first students to check out books from a new shipment.Banned Books Week This year marked the 30th annual celebration of our freedom to choose what we read during Banned Books Week. The library had a Banned Books Week display in both art cases in the media center’s lobby and sponsored a “Name that Challenged

Book” contest. Each day, a brief description of a challenged book was read during the announcements. Students who could correctly identify the book had their name entered in a drawing for a 2 GB flash drive. Rebecca L.wo n the flash drive by correctly identifying the book To Kill a Mockingbird.Literature Circles Mrs. Bullington, Mrs. Gray, and Mrs. Roberts (library intern) collaborated this month to create literature circles using library sets of popular YA titles. Students listened to six booktalks and chose the three titles that most interested them. Lit circles were created from the choices and students then read and discussed their assigned novel with their group. Used Book Sale The Bulldog Booklovers Club held a drive for used book donations and began selling them the last week of September as a club fundraiser. The sale will continue into the first week in October.
