  1. 1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
  2. 2. To use locations away from the school environment In the preliminary, the basement of the school building was used. Although it was a good setting for this, it was still based in the school environment. However, for the final project, the harbour of the local area was used including the pier. This meant that we could be more creative with location and would better fit our
  3. 3. To use actors that are not in our group In the preliminary, the actors were all members of the group. This meant that we could not all decide as a group if we like the positioning of a shot before filming it and would have to film it first and then deliberate. By using more actors from outside the group in the final project, each member was able to look at the positioning of the shot before it was filmed. This meant that some members had more input in the filming stages.
  4. 4. To use costumes that suit the characters personality Originally, school uniforms were used as the costumes for the preliminary, which did not fit the characters personalities. 5. 5. To ensure that our piece fits more to the thriller conventions In our preliminary, we discovered that our filming followed the conventions of horror more than the conventions of the thriller genre. Although it is good to challenge conventions, it was difficult to recognise that it was supposed to be a thriller sequence. In our final project, we adopted the features of the thriller genre more clearly and our storyline is definitely better suited to the thriller genre. This means that the audience of our opening sequence can identify the genre easier.
  6. 6. To be more creative with the soundtrack For the preliminary, a track that was used in The Shining was used as it had some tense sections in the track but also was very unique. However, for the final project, Garageband was used to create a unique track for the opening sequence. Loops were used to layer the track so that it started slightly tense but then became even more tense as it progressed. Music used in Preliminary Soundtrack created for final project
