Olympics The modern Olympic Games are a major

international event featuring summer and winter sports in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions.

The Olympic Games are considered to be the world's foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating.

The Games are currently held biennially, with Summer and Winter Games alternating, meaning they each occur every four years.

Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.

The evolution of the Olympic Movement during the 20th and 21st centuries has resulted in several changes to the Olympic Games.

Some of these adjustments include the creation of the Winter Games for ice and winter sports, the Paralympics for athletes with a disability, Blind Olympics for the blind and the Youth Olympic Games for teenage athletes.

Ancient Olympics The Ancient Olympic Games

were a religious and athletic festival held every four years at the sanctuary of Zeus in Olympia, Greece among representatives of several city-states and kingdoms of Ancient Greece. These games featured mainly athletic but also combat and chariot racing events.

in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010.

Winter Olympics :- The Winter Olympic Games is a sporting event which occurs every four years. The first celebration of the Winter Olympics was held in Chamonix, France, in 1924.

Paralympics :- In 1948, Sir Ludwig Guttmann, determined to promote the rehabitation of soldiers after World War II, organized a multi-sport event between several hospitals to coincide with the 1948 London Olympics. Guttmann's event, known then as the Stoke Mandeville Games, became an annual sports festival.

Blind Olympics :- Each year, Junior Blind hosts a number of events for children and families. The organization’s signature event, Junior Blind Olympics, invites boys and girls ages 6 to 19 to compete in Olympic-style events adapted for the blind.

Olympic gold medallist and former sprinter Michael Johnson holds the Flame at Stonehenge, at the beginning of Day 55 of the Torch Relay. Stonehenge is an ancient site in Wiltshire, south-west England, and is made of a combination of Bluestone, Sarson and Welsh Sandstone. There are a number of stories behind the origin of the monument: the main theories being that it was built for human sacrifices, or it being used for astronomy purposes.
