High Performing Schools, Linking with Asia – Hong Kong and South Korea 12 day program (tbc)Program: The High Performing Schools, Linking with Asia International Learning Offering has been designed for school leaders wishing to focus on innovation and excellence in Asian high performing school systems. Building Asia relevant capabilities to support stronger connections and partnerships across the region will also be a component of the program.

The program has been built around the following questions:

• how do principals establish an effective culture of teaching and learning?

• what does effective leadership look like in high performing schools?

• what factors contribute to high performance in different cultural, social and economic contexts?

• what role do professional learning communities play in building capacity?

• how is teacher performance monitored and evaluated in an ongoing way?

The program provides an extensive professional learning experience delivered through a range of learning opportunities including school visits, briefings and forums.

Date: 28 April – 9 May 2014 tbc

Cost: AU $6,800 tbc (plus travel costs)

Participants are responsible for travel costs to/from Australia and between the two Asian locations. Other costs, including accommodation, a number of meals, conference costs, and local travel, are included in the program charge.

Autonomy: One System’s Experience – Wellington and Auckland, New Zealand5 day program (tbc)Program: New Zealand schools have operated with a high degree of autonomy in areas of governance, school structures, curriculum implementation and assessment practices, for over twenty years. The program provides a relevant professional learning opportunity for school leaders operating in an environment of increased empowerment and working to implement the Australian Curriculum.

Participants will gain a deep understanding of the New Zealand education system, including policy platforms around school autonomy. Visits to a range of schools will focus on extending understandings of system priorities and the innovative ways in which school leaders have implemented these.

The program has been built around the following questions:

• what does effective leadership look like in autonomous schools?

• how do schools maximise autonomy to improve educational outcomes for students?

• what mechanisms best prepare and support leaders in their role?

• how do autonomous schools contribute to the improvement of the system?

Date: 31 March – 4 April 2014 tbc

The program will begin with a group dinner in Wellington on Sunday evening 30 March 2014.

Cost: $3,500 tbc (plus travel and accommodation costs)

Participants are responsible for all associated travel and accommodation costs and arrangements. (Suggestions for moderately priced accommodation will be provided to participants at a later date).

AITSL is offering all school leaders an opportunity to participate in study and travel programs.

* Numbers for these programs are limited and entry to the programs will be on the basis of order of application plus payment of deposit (with registration).

* Program content and schedules are correct at the time of printing, however some program content is still being developed. AITSL reserves the right to make changes where required.

* Minimum participant numbers are required for a program to proceed.
