As the current custodians of Loake, we are immensely proud of the commitment of our forefathers and the tradition they worked so hard to establish - and our premium grade Goodyear welted shoes continue to be made in Kettering, England, in the factory that the three brothers built in 1894.

The Goodyear welted construction for which we are renowned is an intricate process with origins going back over 300 years. Only the very highest quality materials are used and each pair takes eight weeks to make. We still believe that there is no finer way to make a gentleman’s shoe.

We estimate that we have made over 50 million pairs of Goodyear welted shoes since we began. We now export to

more than 60 countries and have become a firm favourite with discerning customers worldwide. Our aim is to uphold this tradition and continue making the most handsome, comfortable and durable footwear we can, and to make high quality, Goodyear welted shoes available and affordable to everyone.

Of course, things move on. Alongside our English Goodyear welted footwear we now design and produce a range of shoes outside the UK, using a variety of constructions. This enables us to offer a complete wardrobe of shoes suitable for almost every occasion.

The Loake family has been making traditional English shoes for longer than anyone can remember.

My great-grandfather John opened the first Loake factory with his brothers, Thomas and William, back in 1880. 136 years later, with the fifth generation involved in the business, the Loake association with fine, handmade shoes lives on.

Making shoes of this quality takes timeThe process required to make a pair of Goodyear welted Loake shoes involves approximately 75 components and 200 separate operations. On average, the whole process, from start to finish, takes 8 weeks to complete.

We believe that one of the reasons for our longstanding success is our obsession with last shape and fit, which can lead to several alterations and a rigorous programme of trials before our exacting standards are met.

We are equally obsessive about the quality of the materials that we use. Only the finest grade leathers are chosen to ensure both the finish and the comfort of your Loake footwear.

All of the shoes in the Loake1880 and LoakeShoemakers ranges are made in England and they have become a firm favourite with discerning customers all over the world.

This premium range emulates the way the company first manufactured its fine, handmade shoes more than 130 years ago. Combining bench-made shoemaking techniques with the highest quality materials, this is a collection to which many shoemakers can only aspire. Loake1880 shoes are examples of Goodyear Welted footwear at its finest, and are made in our Northamptonshire factory.

Every pair of Loake1880 shoes is supplied with shoe bags and a spare pair of laces.

Retail Support

Shoe Care Loake wax polishes, antique creams, protectors and shoe horns are all available separately. Polishes and Creams come in Black, Dark Brown, Mid Brown, Tan, Burgundy and Neutral.

Shoe Trees We offer two types of shoe trees: (A) is stained and polished with brass detailing (size 8 only) to enhance your display of Loake shoes. (B) is aromatic cedar in sizes: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12/13 to protect your shoes and help them to maintain their shape after wear.

Display Units Loake display units come in two sizes: a two-tiered unit that can accommodate up to three styles or a larger six-tiered unit.

The six-tiered unit can either be secured to a wall or attached back-to-back to another unit to make a free standing tower display.

1. Always use a shoehorn when putting on your shoes This will keep the backs strong and sturdy.

2. Try to wear your shoes in dry conditions for the first few occasions.

3. Fine leather shoes can require a full day to dry out from natural perspiration. Try to give them at least twenty four hours between wears.

4. Try to avoid excessive wetting. Should this occur, always let the shoes dry naturally away from direct heat. Use newspaper inside the shoes to help the leather dry out.

5. Your shoes will benefit from regular use of a good quality cream or wax polish. This helps moisturise the leather as well as prevent cracking and excessive creasing.

6. Attaching rubber additions to the soles or heels can affect the balance and comfort of your shoes. It can also put excessive strain on the construction and lead to premature wear.

Leather is a natural product and your shoes will benefit if the following recommedations are observed:

Repair Service

We offer a full repair service at our Kettering factory. All our Goodyear welted shoes (including rubber-soled) are designed to be repairable and our expert craftsmen will resole the shoes on the original lasts. Moccasins can also be repaired with leather or rubber soles.

The service, which can normally be completed within 21 working days, includes a full refurbishing treatment.
