1. Cover your eyes with cupped hands and press your fingers close together
2. Slowly spread your fingers apart3. What happens? Could you see your hands when your
fingers were close together?4. What allows you to see your hands?5. Where is the light coming from?
The sun and lights in the classroom are SOURCES of light.
A source is a place, person or thing from which something comes from.
E.g. What is a source of water?
Can you see other light sources in the classroom?

Are the cat’s eyes and the moon, sources of light?NO! They are not sources of light. They are reflecting light that shines on them.

When we are facing the sun, it is daytime and when we are not facing the sun, it is night time.

Why do you think this happens?
Because the sun is not shining on us and the sun provides us with heat as well as light.
