Nutrients in a healthy diet...Carbohydrates: provide energyProtein: repair all tissues in the body Fats: help transport essential vitamins around your body.Vitamins and Minerals: keep your body healthy and functioning.Fibre: (not nutrient) helps control blood cholesterol levels

Balanced diet...A diet that contains the proper proportions of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water necessary to maintain good health.5 Main Groups:Starchy FoodsFruits & veggiesDairy ProductsProteinFats & Sugar

Starchy Foods: Main source of energyFill you up, youll be less likely to feel hungry and snack during the day.Examples: bread, pasta, cereal, rice and potatoes.Fruits and Veggies:Eat at least 5 portions a dayGood source of vitamins, minerals and fibre.Examples: Carrots, Bananas, apples and spinach.

Dairy Products:Sources of protein, calcium and vitamins.Choose lower-fat options like skimmed milk.Protein:Eat 2 portions of fish a week.Grill, bake or poach meat rather than fry itDecrease intake on processes meat as they can cause bowel cancer.

Fat and SugarYou need fat, but not too much, try to eat less fat overall.Replace foods high in bad fats, like butter, pastries and cheese with foods with good fats like avocado and olive oil.This goes for sugary food too.

How you can improve your diet...Eat 3 balanced meals a day with healthy snacks in between.Do not skip breakfast.Eat more things included in the 5 main groups.
