The United States Philippine W a r Damage Commission, created in 1946, is now prepared to consider private claims for war damage occurring i n the Philippines after December 7th, 1941, and before October 1st, 1945. Such claims must be submitted before March 1st, 1948.

The main office of the Commission is in Mani la and there is also an office'in ' Washington. The Registrar of Enemy Debts (Palestine) wishes to forward to the public the following important information :

1. Notwithstanding any registration of a claim by a Br i t i sh subject or a. Pales- , tinian citizen against C z e c h o s l o v a k i a and P o l a n d H i s Majesty's Government in

. London wi l l not be able to take up such claims unless the claimant has exhausted remedies under the laws of the respective country. In particular claimants have to submit to the competent foreign authorities their applications and'claims through lawyers, and to prove their title to the property especially where such right 'or title is based on inheritance. , ; ! ,־. '"־ '

2. Claimants are therefore advised to instruct lawyers in both.countries:to take all requisite steps with regard to their claims., , . ; : ׳ .

3. Claimants of p r o p e r t y n a t i o n a l i z e d i n P o l a n d should inform 1me whether their representatives in Poland have had their ownership recognized by the Polish G o v - 1 ' ernment and, where not, to instruct them to proceed immediately to this end. A Polish Decree of 8th .March, 1940, regarding Abandoned P r o p e r t y a n d P r o p e r t y p r e v i o u s l y owned by the Germans requires that: applications under Chap­ter I I I of the Decree, for restoration of "abandoned property" (as distinct from nationalized property) should be submitted to the Liquidation Offices in Poland through Polish lawyer b e f o r e 31.s׳/, December, 1947. The definition of "abandoned property'.' 'is• very- wide:and includes practically all types of property•. Claimants are advised to ascertain immediately from their lawyers in Poland the position of their property and to lodge, where necessary, applications before the said date.
