WELCOMETOTHEWINTEREDITIONOFTCHBACKCHATThe first half of 2019 held up well following a record year in 2018. TC Harrison JCB was delighted to be acknowledged as one of JCB’s 1000 Club again – an accolade for the dealers that sell in excess of 1000 machines in a year. It is thanks to the hard work of our whole team that we achieve this award year after year.

Now we have reached the end of 2019 it is clear that the political turmoil has impacted the whole industry. The General Election result will hopefully help forge a clear path forwards so that the uncertainty can lift. Here at TC Harrisons we continue to focus on what we do and how we can do it better for our customers.

JCB continues to invest heavily in new products, new technology and new systems to ensure that we have the best possible offers for you and TCH JCB continues to invest in providing the best possible support and customer care. Our new Industrial Division is evidence of this. We also continue to recruit new staff, in particular service engineers to ensure that we continue to meet your expectations.

The first ever JCB electric excavator is now in full production and has already made a mark with customers, particularly those with jobs indoors, underground and in urban areas. We also now have a new JCB 30-19E Teletruk; the first all-electric machine in the popular JCB Teletruk range. JCB signalled its intention to produce a new rotating telehandler over the summer with a preview of the JCB Hydraload. This has been produced in response to customer demand and the growing popularity of this concept.

As we head towards Christmas I would like to thank you very much for your valued business this year and wish you and your families a very Happy Christmas and New Year. We look forward to working closely with you to ensure we can all survive and prosper through whatever comes our way.

INDUSTRIALDIVISIONNEW

TC Harrison JCB is delighted to launch a new industrial division complete with a team dedicated to the industrial sector. Whether you work in logistics, haulage or other industrial sectors, we have expanded on the success of the JCB Industrial Teletruk range and added to two complimentary JCB ranges: The JCB Access Equipment range - offering unparalleled reach and convenience and the JCB Generator range – offering round-the-clock up-time for all sites no matter where they are.

Our experienced team consists of Karl Charlton, a familiar face at TCH JCB, who is heading up the new division as Industrial & Used Equipment Manager.

We have also recruited a new Access Equipment Sales Manager, Liam Difuria who joined the company in September this year. Liam previously worked for the family plant hire business and was a customer of TCH JCB’s.

TCH JCB and JCB HQ came up trumps for customer, Dan Ingram, who called us back in October trying to retrieve his stolen machine, a JCB 531-70 Loadall. The LiveLink contract on the machine had elapsed in 2014 so Dan, a farmer, had no way of tracing the machine himself. In desperation he called us to see if we could help. TCH JCB Commercial Director, Wendy Asquith, took Dan’s call and immediately contacted the JCB LiveLink team at JCB to establish whether the machine could be re-connected to LiveLink to establish its whereabouts;

“I was astounded that, after speaking with both Dan and JCB late in the afternoon on 29th October, the JCB LiveLink team pulled out all the stops and came back to me early the next day to advise that LiveLink has been successfully reactivated and a location for the machine found.”

Whilst TCH JCB immediately called Dan to pass on the good news, it was a further 12 hours before he called back at 10.30pm in the evening. He’d been working through the night and was catching up on his sleep. Wendy, who was actually waiting to fly off on holiday, nonetheless liaised with Dan and texted the machine location details and Dan went to try and recover his machine.

“We could see from google images that the machine was hidden in some trees off the road and to my delight I received a text at 6.30am the next day to say the customer had recovered his machine. As you can imagine he was beyond relieved. This story perfectly illustrates just one of the benefits of JCB LiveLink. I am very grateful to the swift action from JCB too who went above and beyond for this customer.”

Steve Shepherd, Terry Whitby and Chris Barnacle all retain Teletruk sales responsibilities alongside construction machinery in their own territories.

Arron Wiblin joined TCH in 2015 and has worked his way up to become Used Equipment and Teletruk Salesman for Lincs, Notts and Derbyshire. He will now take on responsibility for Access Equipment and Generators for his region.

JCBLAUNCHESITSFIRSTEVERROTATINGTELEHANDLERThe Hydraload 555-210R will meet the changing requirements of contractors across the world, as a greater use of off-site pre-fabrication calls for heavier lift capacities and increased on-site versatility. Rotating telescopic handlers have become a genuine cost-effective replacement for smaller mobile cranes, offering rapid set-up and the ability to carry out technical lifting operations.

With more than 40 years of expertise in telescopic handler design and manufacture, JCB has designed the JCB Hydraload rotating machine to meet the needs of specialist lifting contractors and the rental market. These machines have grown in popularity and provide heavier lift capacities than a standard telehandler. To recognise this, the JCB Hydraload 555-210R will be launched with a maximum lift capacity of 5.5 tonnes and a maximum working height of 20.5m. It will combine robust boom construction with the familiar JCB driveline and is designed to deliver reliability, versatility, productivity, ease of use and safety, as a means of delivering improved uptime and increased customer profitability.

Quick features:

• Highly versatile rotating telescopic handler offering 20.5m lift height

• Maximum lift capacity of 5.5 tonnes

• Rapid set-up time boosting productivity

• All-round visibility improving site safety

• Wide range of options including winches and aerial work platforms

To minimise set-up time, the outriggers have auto one-touch deployment, stowage and levelling. Competitive lift end cycle times and high auxiliary flow rates for efficient winch work further boost productivity. With a lower chassis engine layout, the machine offers excellent access and class-leading serviceability whilst a low, clean boom design gives excellent all-round visibility, augmented by comprehensive work light options and camera kits, including a boom head camera for precise placement at height.

The machines are powered by JCB’s proven highly efficient Ecomax engines, offering a high degree of parts and service commonality with other Loadall models. JCB LiveLink telematics system is fitted as standard and will incorporate features that enable operators to fully exploit the performance of this versatile machine.

With a maximum lift capacity of 5.5 tonnes, the machine offers excellent highly competitive load charts. Easily selectable lift end speed profiles and lift envelope limits help the operator to optimise the machine for specific tasks. A range of specially developed JCB attachments using RFID technology can be identified by the machine, to automatically offer the correct load chart for safe operation.

At launch, a range of attachments will be available including pallet forks, a 5.5 tonne carriage winch, a 2 tonne x 2m jib winch, a reduced height jib, 5.5 tonne hook, light duty buckets and a range of fork-mounted accessories, such as waste skips and concrete placing skips. Remote lift end operation and access platforms will also be offered.

8-10TDASH2MIDIEXCAVATORS

A range of updates, including Stage V engines, have been made to our popular midi excavator models – the 85Z-2, 86C-2, 90Z-2 and 100C-2. The cabs have been upgraded to provide easy to see information and easy to control including a new advanced lift overload feature that gives a visual indication of the lifting limits of the machine which is displayed on a new screen. This incorporates a status bar with a coloured warning system accompanied by an audible alarm.

To increase internal cab floor space new boom swing and auxiliary controls are mounted on the joystick. Elsewhere the machines feature a new heavy-duty kingpost with durable, re-bushable pivots to optimise service life and to provide a safe route for all excavator hoses.

The new cleaner, Stage V engine has been integrated into the revised machines with no compromise on performance and does not require AdBlue. Peak power and torque at low engine speeds ensures efficient cycles and economical fuel consumption.

Under the bonnet the new dash 2 machines feature colour-coded hydraulic hoses for easy identification.

A new option available for the 86C-2 is a triple articulated boom (TAB) which enables to the machine reach further, dig closer and dump higher for even greater productivity. For a copy of the brochure please visit www.jcb.com/en-gb/products/mini-excavators

JC Balls & Sons Ltd is one of our longest standing and most loyal customers. The company is highly visible across the Midlands and North and works on a wide variety of high profile projects including the A50 road improvements, the JCB Golf Course and the site of the former American Adventure in Derbyshire. In early November, the village of Ambergate suffered from horrific floods with many homes submerged under water. JC Balls headquarters is located in the heart of Ambergate, but thankfully sits in an elevated position at the top of a hill. Unaffected by the torrent of water running through the village the team nonetheless witnessed the devastation from the offices and rushed out to help clear a local river that was gathering debris from the torrents of waters. Tom Balls and dad, Kevin, took a couple of JCB machines; a JS 175W wheeled excavator and a 4CX backhoe loader and worked tirelessly to clear the river. This swift action helped to save the steel bridge that was under threat of collapse from the force of the water. The heroics didn’t stop there however. On the way back Tom came across police and paramedics attempting to reach a lady that had been taken ill in her home. Preparing to launch a dinghy to evacuate the lady, her husband and the family dog, the emergency services gratefully accepted a lift in the trusty JCB backhoe. After assessing the patient, it was decided to transfer the family to a waiting ambulance, with the safest mode of transport being in Tom’s machine.

It’s fantastic to see the community pulling together in this way. Well done to the whole JC Balls & Sons team team for going the extra mile and ensuring the safe passage of all.

JCB FASTRAC SMASHESWORLD’S FASTEST TRACTOR RECORD

#JCBWFT

Hands up who saw the JCB Fastrac world record attempt on Channel 4 last month? In a fantastic showcase for JCB’s engineering capabilities the hour long TV programme showed TV celebrity, Guy Martin, obliterating the record in a modified JCB Fastrac which reached an impressive average speed of 135.191mph. Even more impressive was the top speed recorded at just over 153mph.

The stunt took place at Elvington Airfield in York which was a former WW2 airfield and boasts one of the longest runways in the UK. It has been home to many record attempts and speed tests and an official from the Guinness World Records was on hand during the day to record the time and present the certificate to the team.

The team had previously smashed the record with Fastrac One, but decided to go again and work with Guy, of Need for Speed fame, to claim the world title. Working with Williams Engineering - who undertook aerodynamics testing and engine specialist, Ricardo, to turbo charge a JCB 7.2 litre Dieselmax engine, the JCB team modified the chassis and bodywork of a standard Fastrac to make the unit lighter. To ensure authenticity JCB used normal Fastrac tyres that are normally rated to 80 kph, but approved to do 260 kph. Steel belts provided the high strength required at speed whilst higher roundness uniformity gave less vibration problems at high speed. After successfully storming into the record books with the machine – Fastrac Two - Guy Martin was rightly proud of the whole team;

“This has been a massive undertaking, and I was a very small cog in the machine. It was a proper privilege to be involved, so thank you very much to JCB and its engineering team, who got this tractor absolutely spot-on. Just look at it, they get stuff done, it’s brilliant, and it is still a working tractor, so could have gone straight into the nearest field to put in a shift.”

This isn’t the first time Guy has worked with JCB. Back in November 2017 two of TCH JCB’s engineers helped JCB and Guy Martin on the weird and wonderful challenge of building an authentic reproduction of the 30-tonne WW1 tank. And of course, JCB still holds the land speed record for a diesel powered vehicle gained in 20016.

JCB Chairman, Lord Bamford, was delighted with the latest achievement;

“When we reached 103.6mph with the Fastrac in the summer, I was convinced we could go even faster, and the JCB team has risen to the challenge by setting this new record. It’s an amazing achievement delivered by a young and enthusiastic engineering team. Everyone involved should be very proud of the part they have played in showing off British engineering at its very best.”
