WHILE READING: find the missing words (you could give the words to the students in random order, its up to you or their level)Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolfhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3uVQIhSYfYAs soon as Wolf began to feelThat he would like a decent meal,He went and knocked on Grandmas door. When Grandma opened it, she sawThe sharp white teeth, the horrid grin, And Wolfie said, may I come in?Poor grandmamma was terrified,He is going to eat me up!she cried. And she was absolutely right. He ate her up in one big bite.

But Grandmamma was small and tough,And Wolfie wailed, Thats not enough!I havent yet begun to feelThat I have had a decent meal! He ran around the kitchen yelping, Ive got to have a second helping! Then added with frightful added,Im therefore going to wait right hereTill little Miss Red Riding HoodComes home from walking in the wood

He quickly put on Grandmas clothes,(of course he hadnt eaten those). He dressed himself in coat and hat.He put on shoes, and after thatHe even brushed and curled his hair,Then sat himself in Grandmas chair.

In came the little girl in red.She stopped. She stared. And then she said,What big ears you have, Grandma.Said Little Red Riding Hood.all the better to hear you with, the wolf replied.``What great big eyes you have, Grandma.''Said Little Red Riding Hood.``All the better to see you with,'' the Wolf replied.

He sat there watching her and smiled. He thought, Im going to eat this child.Compared with her old GrandmammaShes going to taste like caviar.

Then Little Red Riding Hood said but Grandma, what a lovely great big furry coat you have on.Thats wrong! cried Wolf. Have you forgotTo tell me what BIG TEETH Ive got?Ah well, no matter what you say,Im going to eat you anyway

The small girl smiles. One eyelid flickers. She whips a pistol from her knickers. She aims it at the creatures head And BANG-BANG-BANG, she shoots him dead

A few weeks later, in the wood,I came across Miss Riding Hood. But what a change! No cloak of red,No silly hood upon her head. She said, hello, and do please noteMy lovely furry wolf skin coat.

We will now read the poem together out loud and find out the meaning of the difficult words.Answer the following questions: What is the moral of the story? What do you think about the ending?

Fairy tales have always had a deeper meaning to warn people for certain dangers in life.

Discuss with your partner what the deeper meaning could be behind the story of Little Red Riding Hood?

Individual answer

You probably remember that your parents used to say to you that you werent allowed to go with strangers. How does Little Red Riding Hood fit into this stranger danger concept?

POST-READING

Can you come up with a few other fairy tales you know? How can you corrupt these fairy tales? As a teacher you can decide how many fairy tales they have to come up with. Minimum of two.

Cinderella (Assepoester)Little mermaid (Kleine zeemeemin) The fisher and his wife (Mannetje timpetee of de visser en zijn vrouw)The emperors new suit(De nieuwe kleren van de Keize) Hansel and Grethel(Hans en Grietje) Snow-white (Sneeuwwitje)The wolf and the seven goats (De wolf en de zeven geitjes) RapunzelRapunsel, Tom Thumb(Klein duimpje)Jack and the bean stalk (Sjaak en de bonenstaak)The six swans(De zes zwanen) The seven raven(De zeven raven)The golden bird(de gouden vogel)

Extra option if you have more time in class.

Make a film poster of the fairy tale you have chosen. (worksheet B)
