I am delighted to share my first season with you as Artistic Director at Little Angel Theatre.

We begin our new year by welcoming an array of artists from across the UK onto our stage, celebrating the diverse work of puppetry companies from outside of London – in association with A Nation’s Theatre. There’s a real mix of new and classic stories to entertain both you and your children.

Especially for babies and early years, we have a number of excellent interactive shows throughout the year, with a materials themed week in February. Plus, we’ve made sure there are plenty of fun activities for children of all ages to get involved in over both the February and May half terms, as well as the Easter and summer holidays, not to mention our summer party at the beginning of September.

For ten weeks we’re bringing our very own much-loved, and extensively toured, production of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt back to Little Angel Theatre. It’s such a wonderful adaptation of Michael Rosen’s book, and I have no doubt that you and your children will absolutely love it.

And what about something for the grown-ups? Start your new year with puppetry and get involved with our popular classes, courses, talks and workshops. Then join us in the evening for Little Angel Lates — an evening series of puppetry shows tailored for adults, including the return of the popular Flabbergast Theatre with their show Tatterdemalion.

It really is a busy year ahead for the theatre, and I hope to see you here at some point during 2016.

Samantha Lane — Artistic Director

Julian Crouch and Saskia Lane’s BIRDHEART – An intimate piece of animated theatre with a sheet of brown paper and a box of sand. A show about transformation, loneliness, and the urge to fly. Through a series of animated images built in front of the audiences’ eyes BIRDHEART creates something achingly beautiful from the humblest of beginnings.

A bar in the Rue de Tournon, Paris; it is 2am; closing time, but two street performers persuade a tired landlady to give them one ‘last’ drink and to hear their story.

‘Listen…. It is springtime, here in Paris, and under one of the bridges that cross the river Seine sleeps Andreas… that is his name, Andreas …’

Three performers, one puppet, a ukulele and an accordion, songs, dance, a bar, the night, a drink or two … and ‘The Legend of the Holy drinker’.

TATTERDEMALIONPresented by Flabbergast TheatreThursday 25-Saturday 27 February, 8pmRunning time 1 hour

Hilarious, absurd and often magical, this show juxtaposes themes of loneliness and belonging with joy and exhilaration. Pathos, dark humour and Victorian aesthetics combine to create a wonderful and mysterious backdrop to a poetic and surreal journey (with more than a little silliness thrown in for good measure).

Spencer will do anything to provide for his daughter. So when he signs up for clinical trials of the new miracle drug Mentexpanol, it’s too good to be true, just pop pill and wait for the generous compensation payments.
