1. Using the course site:

Access the course through SCF Connect and ANGEL direct access. Click on the LIS 2004 link.

Each week, check the Announcements on the front page.

Use the Lessons tab to go to the readings and assignments for each lesson.

Use theEmail/Discussions tab to post in the Discussion Forums and to read and send e-mails to classmates or the instructor.

Posting on Discussion Forums

1. Open the Forum and read the instructions.

2. Click “New Post” to create your post.

3. Add a title to your post.

4. Type your reply or copy/paste.

5. Click “Submit.”

To read what others posted, click on their post title.

When you are reading someone’s post, you can post your response by clicking “Reply”

Don’t forget to click “submit” when you are done.

Submitting assignments to the Drop Box

Click on the Assignment Drop Box

You don’t have to type any reply in the box.

Click “Attachments” to choose the file you are submitting. Submit only .doc, .docx, or .rtf files.

Sending and receiving e-mails

You can click on the Email/Discussion tab and then “View Inbox”

You also have a box linking to your inbox on the Home screen of the course.

Please check your inbox frequently. It’s important that you keep in touch with your instructor.

Some pieces of advice…

Type all your assignments and responses in documents and keep a copy after submitting them (things can go wrong with technology, it’s always safe to have copies.)

For double safety, e-mail a copy of your work to yourself. If a file is attached to your e-mail, you won’t loose it and you can access it from any computer.

Check the Calendar/Due Dates each week and make sure you submitted everything that was due. If you have doubts if I received something, send me an e-mail.

To use the SCF Library resources, go directly tohttp://scf.edu/library(don’t use the SCF Connect link, it is not consistent.)

2. What you will learn

This course focuses on methods of accessing information resources available through the Internet.

By reading and viewing the materials on the Lessons, you will learn how to develop a topic and thesis statement, design effective search strategies, retrieve, evaluate, and cite Internet resources.

You will use the Web, the SCF Libraries databases, and you will learn to cite in APA style.

With everything you learn, as a result of this course, you will produce an Annotated Bibliography of a topic of your choice.

3. What you will have to do

5 Quizzes (in Lessons 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7)

5 Discussion Forum Posts (in Lessons 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7)

2 Special Assignments (in Lessons 3 and 4)

The Final Project (you will work on it all semester –long, and it is due on December 9.)

4. How to get help

Q&A Discussion Forum. On the tab “Email/Discussion” there is a special Forum called Q&A. You can post questions to other classmates or the instructor and reply to them as well.

E-mail the instructor.

Visit the Library (Bradenton or Venice Campus). Any of the Librarians can help you with this class.

Ask a Librarian by chat, text, or email. Click on the Ask a Librarian box in the Libraries website or go to askalibrarian.org.

Last but not least

Please check with me if you have problems keeping up with the class.
