As of the 3rd of September 2010, Unknown Explorer Scout Unit has moved from its Old Head Quarters at 1st Fleetwood Scout HQ to Broad-way Tea Rooms, St. Nicholas Church, Broadway, Fleetwood. 17year old Explorer Scout & Young Leader, Steve Gardiner said: “Scouting, has helped me build my character, just recently I have spent 10 days away camping with 1200 other Scouts from across the world. Together as a team we undertook several activities, canoeing, abseiling, archery, sailing, presenting a radio show, and I tired my hand at dry wall building. Fruit loaf (Makes 1 loaf) Place all the ingredients except the fruit in a large bowl. Mix to moisten the dry ingredients and knead thoroughly until smooth and supple. This may be done either by hand or using a mixer fitted with a dough hook, to make a soft dough. Bring the dough together in a ball, then cover the bowl with clingfilm (plastic wrap) or a damp tea towel (dish towel), and set aside in a warm, draught-free place until doubled in size. Meanwhile, rinse the currants and sultanas in hot water. Drain the fruit, then pat dry with paper towels and leave in a warm place with the cranberries and orange peel until needed. Knock back the risen dough and transfer to a lightly floured surface. Knead the fruit thoroughly into the dough. Roll or flatten the dough into a rectangle that is as wide as your tin is long, and about 1 cm/ 1/2in thick.

Roll up the dough, starting at a short side, and pinch the seam to seal. Grease the tin. Place the dough roll seam-side down in the tin and remove any loose fruit from the surface, or it will burn while baking. Cover the loaf loosely with lightly oiled clingfilm and leave in a warm, draught-free place until almost doubled in size. Preheat the oven to 200C/Gas Mark 6. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes. To test, remove the loaf from the tin. Tap sharply on the top and bottom; it should sound hollow. Cool on a wire rack.

350g strong white (bread) flour 3/4tsp easy-blend (active dry) yeast 2tsp sugar 3/4tsp salt 1/2tsp ground cardamom or zest of 1/2 lemon 55g stick butter, melted and cooled slightly 1 egg, beaten 150 ml milk, warmed 100g currants 55g sultanas (golden raisins) 2tbsp dried cranberries 1tbsp candied orange peel

Lest We Forget Remembrance events all over Wyre

Wyre is pulling out all the stops to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have fallen while serv-ing their country, with a full pro-

gramme leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

A number of events are being held around the borough, four of which are detailed below. Children from Shakespeare Primary School in Fleetwood will be the first to take part in a new community project designed to raise awareness of Remembrance Day and create more respect for war memorials among young people. The programme, being delivered on 2 November, will include presenta-tions on the history of Memorial Park, what happens at a remembrance service and a film clip about the seriousness of modern day conflict. This will be followed by a brief service at Fleetwood War Me-morial, including wreath laying and a two minutes' silence, before the sowing of poppy seeds in Memorial Park. Bringing the project to life for Year 6 pupils all over Wyre are: - Paul Deacon, Neighbourhood Offi-cer for Wyre Borough Council - Terry Rogers, a Fleetwood veteran - Michelle Hargreaves, researcher from the Friends of Memorial Park - Rachael Hesketh, Development Worker for United Futures (a partnership between United Utilities and the Groundwork charity). Paul, himself a veteran Royal Marine, said that a similar project based on intergenerational respect had been been carried out last year between veterans and a group of disaffected young men from Fleetwood. "Because this was so successful and with the offensive graffiti attack on the war memorial still on our minds, we decided that other young people could benefit from an exercise like this. "This is so much more than a history lesson. We want to teach them about respect and consideration, both for others and their surroundings. "The headteachers we have spoken to so far have been very supportive and we would like to thank Shakespeare School for being the first to welcome us. We can promise them a very interesting and enlightening day."

A Northern Festival of Remembrance will be hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre (Councillor Russell and Mrs Christine Forsyth) on 9 November. Headlining at the Marine Hall in Fleetwood is the Band of the King's Division, with support from Blackpool Male Voice Choir and the massed choir of Wyre churches conducted by Colin Noble, The Beecham Singers, clas-sic sounds from Ann Cookson and Peter Baldwin, the Barbara Jackson School of Dance and Shakespeare School Choir.

There will also be a parade of standards and a drum head service led by the Mayor's chaplain, Reverend Paul Clemence.

All 500 tickets have been sold, raising approximately £2,300 so far for the Royal British Legion's Womens Section and the Wyre branch of the NSPCC.

A special pamphlet which has been pro-duced about the history of Memorial Park to boost funds for the above charities will also be launched and on sale before the performance. A public Remembrance Service will be held on Armistice Day itself (11 Novem-ber)at Barton, Bilsborrow and Myer-scough War Memorial. Councillor Pete Murphy, Performance Portfolio Holder, will represent Wyre Borough Council. The Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre will attend a service at Marine Gardens in Fleetwood before moving on to the dedi-cation of 18 new trees in Memorial Park at noon.

The tree planting has been organised by Michelle Har-greaves, researcher of the Friends of Memorial Park group and authour of the history pamphlet, with support from the council. It will resurrect a long-lost tradition from the 1920s where new trees were planted at the site at this time every Remembrance Day.

Among those in attendance will be local man Norman Gallagher, whose grandfather died serving in World War I and his father in World War II, plus the daughter of Fleetwood marine Darren Smith, who was killed in Af-ghanistan in 2009.

On Remembrance Sunday (14 November) council repre-sentatives will lay wreaths during services taking place at war memorials around Wyre:

Fleetwood Gym FC Would like to congratulate our Under 11’s Man-ager Mick Young

who has been pick out in the Wyre area for a special Recognition award and will receive his award at a star studied award ceremony in Blackpool on November 26th. Mick has been involved at Fleetwood Gym for nearly 10 years. Mick has been battling Leukaemia for the past 5 years but has still continued to coach football throughout this battle. Well done Mick, you are a credit to our Club!!! November is our 3 year anniver-sary since are recreation, in that 3 years we now have over 160 chil-dren playing in our 10 new teams. All our 10 teams play in our new yellow/blue kit and through our hard work fundraising are provided

with playing kit, training kit and new jackets, all our team now train in Fleetwood at the high school on the floodlit astro turf. We now have over 20 FA Qualified coaches and are working toward the FA Charter Standard award which provides proof the Club is run to the FA guidelines to provide good coach-ing in a safe and enjoyable envi-ronment. We now start the preparation for our 10 annual football tournament next year and are currently looking for sponsors to help with the cost of hosting the event. October was a good month for the Gym, our Under 9’s have contin-ued with their league promotion push having now played 14 with 12 wins, 1 draw and only 1 loss to league leaders Warton. The Under

9’s are now 2nd in the Poulton and District League 1b. Our Under 10 continue to battle hard and take their share of the points are now in a good mid table position. The Under 11’s Managed by Mick Young are this year’s dark horses, finishing bottom last season are now riding high and still unbeaten this season having played 8 won 6 and drew 2. We are currently looking for play-ers in our Under 5’s and 6’s group that runs on a Saturday Morning 10.30 am on King Georges. I have enjoyed writing to you each month here because, so far, it has all been good news to tell with crime rates falling and Fleetwood getting safer. This month is no exception for me as far as things that really affect your daily lives. For example, as I write this, there have been 144 less victims of Criminal Damage than there was this time last year, which is a huge reduction by any standard, almost thirty per cent less in fact.

Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) is also greatly reduced with around 500 less incidents so far compared with last year.

These huge, life enhancing reductions are undoubtedly directly attributable to the intense, robust and focussed targeting of individual key ASB offenders by your PCSO’s. This has seen many of them jailed for a variety of offences and has effectively dismantled ASB groups in the town. There are, as they say, many ways to skin a cat.

We have had more great success, through PC Lester, PCSO Thompson and Regenda, who have been successful again in applying for an ASB Closure Order on another home on Rossall Ward, this time on Eamont Place, Fleetwood. This house was at the centre of a great deal of disorder with the occupants having a terrible effect on their neighbours. Working very closely with Regenda, the landlords of the house, and again bravely supported by a large proportion of other residents who had been badly affected, we were able to show the Magistrates the level of the problems there and as a result they ordered that the house be closed for 3 months.

We have implemented the National ASB Minimum standards, most of which we already had in place, pioneering in your town and as a result we have identified other homes that are causing significant community problems. We have warned those people involved and offered help, through other agencies, but if they fail to take heed, we will take similar action against them too.

We have also assisted Regenda in obtaining an ASB Injunction against an individual on Park Ward which has now severely restricted her offensive behaviour.

It is this focus and dedication, by your PCSO’s, that is making Fleetwood a much safer place to live.

On a separate note, I have heard many rumours that the Police Station is closing at Fleetwood. I can dispel that rumour here and now. We are not leaving!

Finally for this month, we have been seeing a slight rise in cars being broken into and sheds and garages having things stolen from them. I have been telling you each month how much safer your town is getting. Let’s not get complacent now. We still need you to look after your own belongings. Remove anything of value, or that might look like it is of value, from your car. Don’t leave your SatNav cradle in place as this

makes the thief think your SatNav is in the glove box. Even if its not, you will still have a broken window!

Similarly lock your sheds and garages please. Now the winter is here I know a lot of us have tumble dryers in there and the sight of an open garage is often all it needs for a passing opportunist.

Please keep letting us know of your concerns and suspicions, your help is vital to our success, it is your community and we are here to help you keep it safe. We act on all information you provide and you can contact us at your local PACT meetings, by telephoning or calling in at the police station. CITY OF MANCHESTER IT IS Fleetwood Town may be heading for the home of Manchester City next May. Micky Mellon’s men have made a superb start in the Blue Square Bet Premier and the

Football Conference have announced where the play-off final will be held at the end of this season. The final has moved from Wembley Stadium this season after a potential clash with the UEFA Champions League Final. After some consideration, the Football Conference are confident that the venue chosen, with a capacity of 47,715, ticks all the right boxes. The showpiece, with the ultimate prize of a place in the Football League, will take place on Saturday 21st May 2011. The Football Conference Chairman Brian Lee said “We are thrilled to have secured a world renowned venue of the quality of the City of Manchester Stadium. The game has been moved forward 25 hours to Sunday 10th October (4pm kick-off) to accommodate the live broadcast by Premier Sports TV. Action from the top flight of non-league football returns to screens thanks to a deal between the Football Conference and Premier Sports TV. A total of 30 of live games are due to be shown this season and the Cambridge United game is one of the first run of matches to be shown.

Club chief executive Steve Curwood is excited by move. "This is the first time a match will be shown live from Highbury and the first time cameras have been at here since the Hartlepool FA Cup game a couple of years ago. This really is a showcase game for us and I'm sure

fans will pack into Highbury despite the game being moved to a Sunday. This is another indicator of the level of football we are now playing and the quality of action on offer."

REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE Fleetwood Town chairman Andy Pilley is confident the 2,000 seat flagship grandstand at Highbury is on target and will partly in use before the end of the year. "I’m sure many of our regular supporters will have been coming to each home game expecting to see something emerge from the building site that is currently the east side of Highbury Stadium. "Whilst there isn’t much to see yet however I am pleased to advise that the construction of our new main stand is still bang on schedule and good progress is currently being made with the groundworks. “The first obvious sign of construction will be early in October when the steelwork is erected and that will give everybody the first indication of the sheer scale of the what we are building. The stand will ultimately dwarf our other stands and it will complete our complete redevelopment of Highbury Stadium. “We are still hoping to have around 600 seats in use for the Southport game on the 28th December and the entire development is scheduled to be completed at the end of March next year. I’d like to thank everybody for their patience and understanding as we complete the development and I can assure you all it will be well worth the inconvenience when it’s finished."
