To the Members, COMMITTEE'S REPORT.(a) We beg to submit to you the 181st Half-yearly Report snd Balance Sheet. The total amount received for goods sold

during the half-yesz is 2427, 269 10s. Id. , being an increase of X4, 069 11s.d)Q. over the corresponding half-yesz. The net profiton the half-year's business after allowing for sll expenses, depreciation, snd intezest amounts to 825,982 Os. OJJd. , snd after deductingthe payments as pez Pmfit snd Loss Account, leaves s balance of 815,825 18s. 2+., which we pzspose to dispose of as follows;—f1'4, 825 Os. Od. as discount on members' purchases at Is. Sd. in the 2; 2274 Os. Od. for Educational Purposes; f500 to ResezveFund, snd 2676 18s. 24d. carried forward to next half-yesz. 95T persons have joined the Society w'ithin the half-yesz, 524 havewithdrawn snd 50 forfeited as pez rule, making the present number 21,920.

(b) The St. Giles Bzsnch hss been opened during the last quarter, snd will doubtless be of great benefit to the members in thatdistrict, snd result in s large increase of trade. The lszge mom capable of seating 250 people snd licenced for dancing,smaller one to seat shout 50 can be hired for meetings, whist drives, ete. Terms can be obtained from the Se'czetszy.

(c) The site for an up-to-dste dsrizy is s pioblem of the greatest impoztsnce, snd after very cszeful investigation snd inspection,we have unanimously agreed that ouz land on St. Andrew's Drive will best suit ouz purpose. The Corporation have given theizsppzovsl snd. the work will now be pzocecded with ss quickly ss possible.

(d) It is pmposed for the present to utilise the premises vacated by Messrs. Hole snd Co. for the Green fruit depsztmcntthe present green fruit shop for chocolate, sweets snd confectionery. This is only s temporary szzsngement until s scheme hss brettprepared of s moze permanent character.

(e) The building scheme on the Moorland Pszk Estate is pzoceeding very sstisfsctozily. Of the fifty houses now & couzsc ofexaction, more than half are sold, fom being furnished snd occupied. The one opened for mspection wss s huge success; hig crowdscoming down to look round, snd some of the furniture made by ouz own wozkmen was sold several times over. Fozmsl applicationfor the subsidy hss been made for twelve more houses to complete the Avenue. Plans sze prepared for s bzsuch at the coznei, as weexpect this, distziet to be notably s co-opezstive colony. The year hss been sn exceptional one for the Building dep'sz'tment, snd inaddition to sll other kinds of work, 46 houses bsve been built for mcmbezs.

(f) February will be s big month for co-operation, as s special campaign is arranged for thc.who(e. sf. the country. . %dressing, advertising, public meetings sze the general pmceduze zecommended from headquarters "the C.W:S. cotktzibuting:.~the cost. (g} The sdoptiou of the new zules will unfortunately cause s change in the pszsouel cf the iicctuzs, Mr. Chszles Ostick ss pezRule To zetiting at the end of the pzesent quarter. (k} This quarter brings with it also s change in the pezsonel of the Msnsgez, Mz. G. Msddison having reached the sge allowancezethcs on Superannuation. Mz. Msddison hss served the Society faithfully snd well foz 41 yeats, 2T years of which he hss been inehszge of the Methezinghsm Branch. He, too, will cszzy with him into his well-euzned 'ietizement the good wishes of hisfriends in the movement. Mz. We recommend an interim discount af I/3 in 'the E an Members purchases for the psst quarter.

(h) The New Chocolate and Sweet Shop at the corner of Free School Lane and Silver Street„will, we believe supply a need not hitherto met bythe Society. It is too early to state whether aur action will be justified. The hours of apening and desi'ng are different from the otber departments,though the total worlang hours for the staff rentain the same.

(c) For membem who are%at covered under the Nationtd Health Insarance Acts, a Dental Scheme is in operation, vrhereby treatment may beobtained fram any dentist on special terms. Members may select their own dentist, but in every case application must be made in the first instanceto the Msnafmr or Central Office.

(d) Adjoining the Branch at Harncastle a hall is bemg built on the site of some old premises. This building will not only he of service to thebranch for special shows, &c., but we anticipate abo a source of revenue for ether functions in the tawn, as there is a scarcity of small halls in the district.

(e) The Skegness Saciety has boca amalgamated with the Nottingham Co-operative Society, and we would urge our members visiting there todo their business with them. Arrangements have been made for our usual discount to be paid upon all purchases made. Checks to be presented tathe Central Office, Lincoln, or Manager at any Branch. Scarboraugh Society also give half-rate of discount ta purchasers who present their checksbefare returnmg hams.

(f) The Educational Cammittee have during the past quarter purchased a stock of new baoks far the Library, and hope all will take advantageof their Membership hy joining Library and so enjoy the reading of good books.

(g) We would again remind yau there are still a large number of members who have not yet made a nomination as to the dispasal of any daim they:4

have in the Society in case of death. This is entirely for the benefit of those concerned I it saves much time, and perhaps loss. (a) We beg to submit to you the Quarterly Report and Cash Accmmt. The total amount received from goods stdd duiiug the quarter is E232$1619s. 9Id., heing an increase of E32,920 18s. 6d. (6) Once more we are in the midst of the Bulb season, and our latest venture is undoubtedly going to be even a grmter success them H wag hutyuu. On that occasion we disposed of several thousands of bulbs. Very encouraging for a new line. Tlmi year, however, the orders are comingalong at such a splendid rate that we hope to double last year's sales. This fact is very significant for it speahs volumes for the uxceHe'nt quality of tbeBowers and Blooms produced from our Bulbs this spring and summer. Unstinted prose was heard fram aH quarters. (c) We much regret the delay in proceeding with the dairy, hut while the tender has been accepted for the whide of-tbe plant, two sites have bad tobe tumed down. We are now camas'tly seelung another site suitable for this big new development, aud trust soon to be auccmsful.

(d) TJie new branch at the comer of 1Ufoorland Avenue and SkeHingthorpe Road is nearly fmished=and wiH b'e 'formaHy opened for bushtem on,Saturday, November 19th, at three o'clock. In addition to Grocery and Provisions, a Drapery, Boots and Butchery D'epartmmtt wiH be provided tosupply aH the requirements of this co«gterative colony. A tea at one shilling each and concert will he provided 'on, the premises after the qpenhtgceremony. This shoiild ha a red letter day in this district.
