Transcript of Lincoln Park Academy - St Lucie County School...
Greetings Greyhound Family,
Another successful school year is coming to a close, as we wind down and recognize the effort all of our students have put forth and celebrate their outstanding achievements in the areas of academics, sports, the arts and the many competitions and events they have participated in throughout the year.
What better way to finish out the school year, than by celebrating the “Real Heroes!” May 2 through May 6 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. On behalf of the administration and support staff, I want to say “Thank You” to all of our teachers for educating, encouraging and supporting our students each and every day. The passion and dedication you have for our students does not go unnoticed. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!!!
Congratulations to the “Class of 2016!” The entire “Staffulty,” is proud of you for reaching this great milestone and of all your accomplishments as you close this chapter in your lives and begin a new one beyond high school. Whether it is college, the military or the workforce, we know that you are better equipped to meet the challenges of the future. Good luck in all of your endeavors!
As a reminder, graduation will be held on Thursday, May 19th at 7:00 PM at the SLC Fairgrounds. We look forward to seeing all of our parents, families and friends as we honor and celebrate all of our graduating seniors. Please be sure to pay close attention to this month’s calendar, as there are still many events taking place, such as the Senior Awards Ceremony on May 9th and our High School and Middle School Awards Ceremonies on May 17th. We are also continuing with testing, wrapping up with End-of-Course exams for Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology, US History, Civics, Advanced Placement and IB exams.
Lastly, I want to thank all of our students, teachers, staff, parents and community partners for all of the hard work, dedication and support this year. Everyone should be proud of the work we have accomplished and the progress we have made. Together, we can achieve great things and I am extremely confident that we will continue on our path of excellence and increased student achievement. “It takes a village,” and we are very appreciative of your being a part of our village and the Greyhound team!!!
“One School; One Team; One Theme”
Sincerely,
HENRY SANABRIA
Principal
Lincoln Park Academy
May is the month we have been looking forward to all year. A total of 137 LPA students will be taking IB tests in May 2016. The three weeks of testing from May 2-19 will be held in our gymnasium. A total of 75 students are registered as IB Diploma candidates and will seek the coveted IB Diploma. IB exams are graded by external evaluators from various countries around the world. The Extended Essays that our students submitted have been sent for grading to locations such as Argentina, France, Hong Kong, Kenya and the United Kingdom. Destinations for the upcoming May exams include Australia, Japan, and Russia as well as some that are sent across the United States from Maryland to California. It is exciting to see the international connections of the IB. Our students have invested considerable effort and many hours to ensure success in achieving their goals. We wish them the best!
Juniors have just a few assignments left to complete this month. The CAS check will be on May 6th, Extended Essay (3,500-4,000 words) is due on May 18th, Biology lab notebooks are due May 20th, and students should have their World Literature work complete by May 23rd.
MYP students from grades 6-10 are working together in a school-wide effort to reduce, reuse and recycle. Our students have been enthusiastic about this effort; special thanks to Mrs. Lyshon for organizing this Service as Action activity. With the end of the year in sight, it is a pleasure to observe how students interact using the IB Learner Profile traits that have been our focus throughout the year. It’s time to celebrate the successes achieved this year.
Kind regards,
Carol Kuhn
IB Coordinator
May 4th is the second Civics EOC Boot Camp! Our Civics EOC Boot Camp is intended to
provide students with extra tutoring and remediation leading up to the final “End of Course”
exam. The cap will be held after school from 1:45pm - 4:00pm on May 4th. By attending,
students will be exposed to sample test questions on each benchmark according to our data,
helpful hints, lessons that will be new to them (not done in the classroom), extensive study
guides, take home materials, and more. Students are encouraged to attend this session!

News from our Guidance Department
Testing News - EOC, AP & IB testing and senior final exams will take place during the month of May. Be sure you know testing locations, dates, and times of these different tests. Please check with your teachers, check postings in the halls and the cafeteria.
First Time Dual Enrollment Students - Please see your counselor if you are unsure of the dual enrollment process. You may see Mrs. Salvador, Guidance Clerk, if you need to make a one-on-one appointment with your counselor. Enrollment for dual enrollment is open for Summer 1, Summer 11 and Fall classes.
Rising Seniors - It is time to explore potential universities/colleges (check out their website and visit if possible). Register and take the SAT and/or ACT this year if you have not yet done so; work on your ACT/SAT skills over the summer to re-take the tests in the Fall if needed; seek out internships, volunteer, work over the summer; or register to take a class during the summer. These things will help your chances of being accepted into the college of your choice. Check the Guidance Department Bulletin Board, front office, for information on summer internships and more.
Seniors - The final date to complete classes on Florida Virtual School, or Indian River State College Adult High School is Monday, May 2. Please be sure that classes are complete and grades have been posted. There are still scholarship opportunities available. Check the Guidance Bulletin Board for postings. If you have not met the requirements for Bright Futures in community service hours or required test scores, continue to work, you will have until graduation to meet these requirements.
If you have scheduled your university/college orientation prior to graduation, you will need to request a copy of your transcript to take with you in order to schedule your college classes. Do not be concerned that your transcript is not the final one, colleges do understand. They will be able to see your courses in progress to help determine your registration for college classes.
Health News
Attention Parents of 6th grade students: As the end of the school year is quickly approaching, I would like to remind you that all sixth (6th) grade students must receive a TDap immunization before entering 7th grade. Now is the time to stop by your Pediatrician, Health Department or local Walk-In Clinic to have your child’s shots updated! Please make sure you obtain the 680 State Form (given by Dr. administering the shot) and return it to the school Clinic.
Also, students who have medication on file in the clinic should have their medication picked up no later than May 27, 2016. Any medication that has not been picked up by this date will be destroyed. PA forms have been sent home to assist in the upcoming school year.
If you have any additional questions, please contact Ms. Fishbein at (772) 468-5479 or by email, [email protected]. Have a healthy and happy summer!!!
