Limit of Resolution : The distance between two objects at which it first becomes impossible to resolve them as separate. Depth of Field The thickness of the plane of focus. Objects are in focus in part of the picture but not in others. The objects are 3-D not 2-D. Even cells you see in the microscope. Field of View The field of view is the diameter of the circle of view you can see when looking down a microscope. The higher the magnification, the smaller the field of view. Parfocal An object remains in focus even when the objective/magnification is changed. How to find things under a microscope: 1. Clean the eyepiece and slide 2. Place slide on the stage. Make sure that the light is passing through the specimen. 3. Start with the Scanning Objective. 4. Use the Coarse Adjustment knob to bring the stage as far up as possible. 5. Use the Coarse Adjustment knob to focus on the specimen. 6. Look around the whole slide to find the part thats easiest to view. 7. Put the cells/specimens that you want to look at in the middle of your field of view. 8. Change the objective and refocus with the Fine Adjustment Knob. 9. Adjust the diaphragm when you change the objective so that you have the right amount of light.
