LIGHTPATH TM Subsea Lighting System www.photosynergy.co.uk LIGHTPATH TM is a unique fibre lighting system, offering an innovative technical solution to sectors, from domestic lighting to the challenging and hazardous subsea, where safety of life is paramount. Designed and patented by PhotoSynergy Ltd (PSL), LIGHTPATH TM is simple yet highly effective. The patented side-emitting flexible fibre projects a continuous and flexible line of light from a low power LED light source, which carries no electrical power. It can be either steady state or flashing. Proven on dive umbilicals, the safety benefits of LIGHTPATH TM are officially recognised by Shell UK Ltd, and it is now included in the company’s Diving Operations Guidance Document 0184-001 for both surface air and saturation diving. A portfolio of LIGHTPATH TM products has been developed for a range of subsea and marine applications, with support provided by The Underwater Centre, Bibby Offshore Ltd, Helix Well Ops UK Ltd, Harkand, Boskalis Offshore Subsea Services, Technip and Subsea 7. PSL received the Subsea UK Innovation for Safety Award in 2014 for its significant contribution to safety. Applications include: • Illumination of dive umbilicals • lighting of tool boxes, tether lines and restraint systems including the golden gate • lighting of manifold valves, control panels and docking garage guidance systems • deep water applications, including delineation of seabed matting and installations • identifying guide routes into wrecks utilising a continuous line of light • controlled site access and ‘grid location’ for marine archaeology • illumination of guard rails, open hatches, temporary work areas • identifying egress routes below deck • tower access lighting and ship personnel transfer systems for offshore wind turbines

Subsea Lighting System
LIGHTPATHTM enhances safety for all parties operating in the subsea environment. This has been proven for the individual diver, his colleagues in the water and the bell-man. ROV pilots are aware of the route of the umbilical which minimises the risk of collision and helps detect cases of dive umbilicals snagging on structures. The individual diver can be identified through choice of light output colour, green or blue. Colours chosen for their efficient transmission through fibre and seawater combined with being close to the peak human eye response.
