    Create a Light Trail Effect in Photoshop

    1. Let's start by selecting the pen tool.

    2. Draw a path just like in the figure above or whaterver pathyou like.

    3. Click on Create New Layer.

    4. Select the Brush Tool.

    5. Click the brush preset and find the Fuzy Cluster Loose,select that brush preset.

    6. Click the Brush options to start editing the settings.

    7. Select the Brush Tip Shape.

    8. Enter 45px for the Diameter, Note: that in our case 45px works fine but thisnumber depends on the size of the image so experiment until you find the right sizefor your images.

    9. Select the Dual Brush.

    10. Choose the 192 preset.

    11. Now start modyfing the Diameter, Spacing, Scatter, and Count, in our case theseting we entered above worked fine.

    Note:that if you are using a Wacom Tablet than you need to activate in the ShapeDynamics the Pen Pressure option, also this is useful for the light to taper in andout when we apply the stroke.

    12. Paint a stroke just to test out the settings we created also we need thistemporary stroke to design the layer style.

    13. Click the FX icon and choose outer glow from the menu.

    14. The outer glow should be selected if not do it.

    15. Choose whatever color you like form the gradient menu.

    16. Select Drop Shadow.

    17. Choose a Bright Color.

    18. For the Blend mode select Dissolve.

    19. Now Lower the opacity so the little sparkles are less visible.

    20. ClickOK.

    Now the layer style gets applied to the stroke, next with the layer 1 still selected hitCTRL+A to select everything and hit Backspace to delete the stroke, Note that thelayer style is still available, if we paint on layer 1 the style gets applied.

    21. Click on the Path Tab.

    22. Select the Path Right click on it and choose Stroke Path.

    23. Make sure that Brush and Simulate Pressure are selected.

    24. ClickOK.

    25. The stroke is applied to the path and the layer style has taken it's effect, now makesure the layer is selected.

    26. Click the Add Layer MaskIcon to apply a clipping mask.

    27. Select the Brush tool.

    Make Sure you set the foreground to Blackand background to white and choose anormal size brush from the tool options.

    28. Now start painting out the areas you want the stroke to go behind you model.Note: that if you erase to much you can paint back by choosing the White color as theforeground.

    29. Drag the stroke layer to the Create New Layer icon to make a copy of it.

    30. Lower the opacity of the copied layer to 50% just to make the effect a bitmore intense.

    31. Drag the stroke layer again to the Create New Layer icon to make anothercopy of it.

    32. Go to Edit-Transform-Flip-Horizontal to flip the layer you just copied.

    33. Select the Brush Tool make sure the foreground color is set to White.

    34. Select the Layer Mask thumbnail.

    35. Start painting in the stroke we erased earlier.

    36. Select the Move Tool and place the stroke to the desired location. Also repeatsteps 27-30 for this layer.

    37. Double Click the Layer Thumbnail to Show the Layer Styles Option.

    38. Select the Outer Glow and choose a color you like for the stroke. ClickOkand the Effect is completed.
