Front  of  Bag  –near  the  bottom  

(Steps  1-­‐3  see  P1)

1.  With  RS  facing  and  top  band  facing  down,  join  yarn  with  a  sl  st  to  where  the  double  bullion  outer  round  is  joined  to  Bullion  Petal  Flower  (see  red  arrow  P1).    

(The  following  sl  sts  are  worked  above  the  puffs  on  The  Hearts  Flower  and  into  the  2nd,  5th,  9th,  11th  and  13th  sts  on  the  Spiral.  These  could  be  worked  into  back  loops.)    Ch1,  sl  st  to  Hearts  flower,  ch  2,  sl  st  to  2nd  st  on  Spiral,  ch  2,  sl  st  to  Hearts  flower,  ch2,  sl  st  to  5th  Spiral  st,  ch2,  sl  st  to  Hearts  flower,  ch  2,  sl  st  into  9th  Spiral  st,  ch  3,  sl  st  to  Hearts  flower.    If  needed,  turn  work  (WS  facing),  ch  5,  sl  st  into  11th  st  on  Spiral,  ch  2,  sl  st  into  13th  st  of  Spiral,  turn  work.    RS  facing,  ch  1,  (5dc  popcorn  into  ch5  sp,  ch  1)  3  times  omitting  last  ch1,  sc  into  back  loop  of  Hearts  Flower  (above  puff  st).  Working  in  back  loops  only  sc  into  all  sts  around  Hearts  flower  to  the  join  with  Bullion  Petal  Flower  (the  white  flower  in  P1).    

 

2.  RS  facing  and  band  still  at  bottom,  join  yarn  in  ch  loop  that  joins  Bullion  Petal  Flower  (to  the  right  on  P1)  to  Spiral.    Ch  4,  sc  in  5th  stitch  of  Spiral  (from  the  flower),  work  sc  (10-­‐15  sc  depending  on  size  of  Spiral)  in  every  st  around  Spiral  to  join  of  popcorn  stitches  of  step  1,  hdc  in  join,  2tr  in  space,  (4tr  in  space  between  popcorn)  twice.      Sc  in  3rd  sc  from  join  on  outer  edge  of  Hearts  Flower,  (2ch,  skip  st,  sc)  repeat  around  edge  until  2sts  remain  before  join  with  Bullion  Petal  Flower,  sc  in  the  chain  space  of  that  flower,  sl  st  in  the  chain  loop  of  next  Bullion  Petal  Flower.    

3.  Make  a  Puff  Filler  Flower  (Rd  1-­‐3  of  Summer  Day  Flower)  and  join  to  bottom  left  corner  on  front  of  bag  to  Bullion  Petal  Flower  and  chain  space  on  outer  Spiral.  (see  red  circle  P1)

4.  Make  a  Popcorn  Flower  attaching  to  Puff  Flower  on  side  of  bag  (not  shown  on  pic)  and  the  ch  2  spaces  round  of  Heart  Flower  on  front  (far  left  P2).  

5.  Make  a  Double  Bullion  Flower  attaching  to  Popcorn  Flower  just  made,  the  Bullion  Petal  Flower  on  the  back  of  bag  and  to  the  ch  2  spaces  round  of  Heart  Flower  on  front.  

6.  Make  a  Bullion  Petal  Flower  and  attach  to  the  Double  Bullion  Flower  just  made  and  the  Bullion  Petal  Flower  on  the  back.  

7.  Make  a  Puff  Flower  (Rds  1-­‐4  Summer  Day  Flower)  and  add  a  rnd  of  (sc,  ch2,  sk1),  sl  st  into  1st  sc  (far  right  of  P2—do  not  attach  yet).  

8.  Make  a  Popcorn  Flower  joining  to  Puff  Flower  from  step  7,  and  to  the  Bullion  Petal  Flower  (step  6)  and  the  first  sc  on  the  edge  of  the  Spiral  on  front  of  bag.

9.  Make  a  14  bullion  Spiral  and  attach  to  top  and  right  sides  of  Puff  Flower  just  made,  wrapping  around  to  back  of  bag.    

10.  On  the  wrong  side  of  Spiral,  starting  at  the  join  with  Puff  Flower  and  working  in  back  bump,  (standing  sc,  ch2,  sk1,  sc  in  next  st),  continue  around  Spiral  to  the  join  with  flower,  turn.  Sl  st  into  ch  sp  of  the  flower,  ch1,  *popcorn  into  ch2  sp,  ch2  *  repeat  *-­‐*around  Spiral  to  other  side  ending  with  ch1,  sl  st  into  next  available  sc  on  flower.  

11.  Work  standing  dc  into  1st  ch2  sp  between  popcorn,  3dc  in  same  sp,  4dc  into  each  ch2  around  to  the  other  side,  join  with  sl  st  to  flower.  

12.  Work  back  post  sc  around.  

13.  Work  double  bullion  stitches  (sl  st  into  the  stitch,  ch  3  and  work  5  wraps  around  the  ch3)  around  Spiral,  working  the  ch  3  into  next  dc  of  step  11  and  behind  the  sc  from  step  12,  and  the  sl  st/sc  (to  pull  through  all  loops)  into  the  next  dc.  (Two  dc  used  for  each  double  bullion  stitch.)

14.  Make  a  Bullion  Petal  flower  with  2  joins  to  the  Popcorn  Flower  above  (just  before  where  Popcorn  is  joined  to  Summer  Day  Flower)  and  2  joins  to  the  Summer  Day  Flower.  Join  to  the  10th  last  double  bullion  stitch  around  the  corner  Spiral,  make  2  more  joins  to  these  stitches  (11th  and  12th).    

15.  Make  a  Popcorn  Flower  (first  4  rnds  only)  joining  on  rd  4  as  follows.  Leave  about  3  double  bullions  between  the  Petals  flower  and  this  Popcorn.  Make  3  joins  to  the  double  bullion  stitches,  skip  about  2  popcorns,  then  2  joins  to  the  Summer  Day  Flower  above,  just  next  to  where  the  Summer  Day  is  joined  to  the  other  Popcorn  (leaving  about  6  dc  unworked  on  the  Summer  Day  before  the  Popcorn.    

16.  Work  in  the  ch  3  spaces  of  the  Popcorn  Flower  between  it  and  the  last  Bullion  Petals  Flower  from  step  14.    Join  yarn  in  the  ch  3  space  of  the  Popcorn  flower  closest  to  the  Summer  Day  Flower  above.  Ch4  and  join  to  third  dc  of  the  group  of  4  on  the  Summer  Day  Flower.  Tr  in  same  space  on  Popcorn  Flower.  Ch1  and  join  between  next  group  of  5  dc  on  the  other  Popcorn  Flower.  2  tr  in  next  ch  3  space,  join  to  ch  5  space  on  back  of  the  Bullion  Petals  flower,  2  tr  in  same  ch  3  space.  Join  to  next  ch  5  space  of  Bullion  Petals  flower,  2  tr  in  next  ch  3  space  and  join  to  the  Bullion  Petals  Flower,  2  tr  in  same  ch  3  space  and  join  to  the  double  bullion  stitches  around  corner  Spiral.  

 

Side  of  Bag  

We  will  now  work  the  side  of  the  bag  that  is  to  the  right,  when  looking  at  the  back  of  the  bag.  

17.  Starting  on  bottom  right  edge  of  the  double  bullion  stitches  around  the  Spiral,  join  with  sl  st.  *Ch  5,  sc  in  second  chain  from  hook,  hdc  in  next,  dc  in  next  2  sts,  skip  one  stitch  on  first  rnd,  sl  st  in  next  (petal  made).*  Repeat  until  you  reach  the  Popcorn  Flower  (about  12  petals  made)  and  join  between  two  popcorns.  Ch  3,  sl  st  to  top  of  next  popcorn,  turn  work,  ch  1,  dc  in  same  st  as  sl  st  between  petals  just  made  on  top  of  Spiral,  (ch3,  dc  in  next  st)  3  times,  join  to  Bullion  Petals  Flower,  (ch  3,  dc  in  next  st)  5  times,  join  to  Puff  Flower  on  front  of  bag,  (ch  3,  dc  in  next  st,  join  to  next  space  on  Puff  Flower)  2  times,  (ch  3,  dc  in  next  st)  until  the  end,  joining  to  the  edging  around  the  Puff  Flower  at  bottom  of  Spiral.  Fasten  off.  (P5)

Filling  in  Spaces  

Optional  joins  in  empty  places  with  little  flowers  and  stitches.  Please,  feel  free  to  do  the  joining  by  using  different  stitches.  The  following  offers  some  suggestions:  

 

BULLION  PUFFS  (a  filler  flower)  

 

 

Ch  5,  join  to  the  1st  ch  with  sl  st  or  work  a  magic  ring.  

Round  1:  Ch  1  (does  not  count  as  st),  8  sc  into  the  ring.  Join  with  sl  st  to  first  sc.  

Round  2:  Ch  3  (count  as  dc),  3  dc  into  the  same  sc  of  previous  row.    

 

 

 

 

 

 

*Block  bullion  stitch:    (yo,  insert  hook  around  all  3  dc,  pull  up  a  loop)  4  times.  Yo  and  draw  the  loop  from  same  sc  of  the  1st  row  =11  loops  

Yo  and  pull  through  3  loops  =  9  loops.  Yo  again  and  pull  through  3  loops  =  7  loops.  Repeat  3  more  times  (Bullion  puff  stitch  completed)  *
