During your stay, you are going to have three different kinds of costs:

Arrival costs (transports from airport to Milan, transports in Milan, temporary

accommodation);

Fees and administrative costs (university fees, costs for residence permit and health insurance, costs for books and other tools);

ARRIVAL COSTS - HOW TO REACH MILAN

If you land at Linate Airport take the Bus No 73 from Linate Airport to Milan Piazza S. Babila (a single fare ticket is 1,5€).

ARRIVAL COSTS - ONCE IN MILAN

Tickets for public transports can be bought at bars and newspaper kiosks, but also at ATM points (ATM is the Milan public transports

company).

A two days ticket costs 8,25€, is valid for 48 hours after stamping and gives you unrestricted travels for all the Milan Municipality area. The ticket is valid even on the rail network, including the urban rail

lines of Trenord and the 'Passante Ferroviario' (Urban Railway Network).

Annual Travel Card (Milan Municipality area only) 330€. For students aged up to 26 with a specific income, the price can be reduced (200€). The electronic card itself has a cost of 10€ and has a 4 years validity.

ARRIVAL COSTS - SUM UP

You will probably need at least 500€ to reach Milan, purchase an annual transports card and provide for your meals for the very first

days.

Of course, much will depend on the accommodation you are going to have (if it’s going to be temporary, if you are going to live

directly in one of Polimi residences, if you are going to share an apartment with one or more friends), so add the possible costs for

the accommodation to those for transports and meals.

FEES AND ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS - UNIVERSITY LIFE AND NOT ONLY

First installment 805,58€, to be paid upon enrollment. The amount is the same for all the students. The Administrative Fee must be paid in order to complete the payment, and will be deducted from

the second installment;

Second installment around 2500€ (maximum contribution for a standard study plan). For students with a non-EU nationality and with a residence permit for study purposes, tuition fees are fixed on

the maximum contribution range (contribution level: 10).

The ISEEU declaration attesting a lower income level will not be considered.

Students holding a Polimi scholarship must pay the Administrative Fee only.

Students with a DSU scholarship must pay both the first and the second installments. In case they meet the requirements for the

renewal, they will be reimbursed.

Students with an EU nationality or non-EU students regularly residing in Italy with a residence permit for work, family or refugee purposes will pay the second installment on the basis of their ISEEU

declaration.

FEES AND ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS - UNIVERSITY LIFE AND NOT ONLY

Stay permit 153,50€, for the first one as well as for each renewalHealth Insurance unless you have your own one bought abroad,

you can spend from 50€ to 150€ (the last one has a one year validity).

Materials and booksArchitecture/Design courses about 1000/2000€ for two years, plus

100/200€ for the books (for each year)Engineering 150/200€ per year

Depending on the course you’re enrolled in, you may find yourself in need of buying specific tools or other technical materials in order to participate at

workshops and so on..

University Sport Center (C.U.S) and Politecnico Sport Committee

Enrollment 15 € (Insurance for all activities as well as medical check-up for non-competitive performance included) With an additional amount of 10 €, students can freely run for one year on the tracks of Centro Sportivo Giuriati, Inside Campus Leonardo.

FEES AND ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS - SUM UP

Non-EU students residing abroad (and not holding a scholarship) are going to spend around 3300€ every year. The

amount may slightly change according to the number of credits in the study plan.

All students (Architecture/Design) add something like 1200€ per year, for tools and books

All students (Engineering) add something like 200€ per year, for books

All students consider other 300€ for both residence permit (non-EU students) and health insurance

Overall, an international student without a scholarship is going to spend approximately between 3800€ and 4800€ per year

DAILY LIFE - SUM UP

As said, much depends on the kind of accommodation a student has, and therefore on the possibility to cook for meals. A student living in

his/her own apartment may spend around 50€ every week for groceries.

If we add bills, the monthly cost for those living in an apartment goes up to 350€. Then we must add the costs for leisure activities,

drugs or other unexpected costs (please notice we are not considering the apartment rent).

We can suppose the overall monthly cost will be around 600€. This, as well as the rent, is surely going to decrease if the students decide to share their apartment. Anyway, please consider this is a

very basic forecast and does not foreseen specific variables.
