Ascension School needs math tutorsCan you spare an hour or two each week to volunteer at Ascension School? We are in urgent need of tutors to help prepare our 8th graders for state math proficiency testing. Tutoring makes a huge difference for scholars. Interested? Volunteer with Reading Partners! Reading Partners helps elementary school students become lifelong readers with the help of the community. Volunteers tutor one student for an hour at the same time each week. Tutoring takes place at Ascension School Monday through Thursday, 7:50 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Volunteers must be 14 years old or older, complete Essential 3 VIRTUS requirements, attend an orientation and commit to at least one semester of volunteering for at least 1 hour each week.Visit readingpartners.org/volunteer to sign up today!

REFLEXIÓN

¡FELIZ AÑO NUEVO 2020! y la fiesta del Bautismo del Señor¡Bienvenidos al año nuevo y una nueva década! El domingo pasado celebramos la fiesta de la visita de los reyes al recién nacido Salvador del mundo. No eran judíos, pero pudieron reconocer la LUZ en medio de un mundo que vivía en oscuridad.

También nosotros vivimos en un mundo que necesita luz para iluminar la oscuridad marcada por la violencia, el materialismo, el odio y una falta de respecto para cada ser humano. Aunque Jesús siempre está presente, no está muy visible. Como dice Santa Teresa de Ávila, sus manos son nuestras manos, sus ojos son nuestros ojos, sus pies, nuestros pies, y añado yo, su presencia, nuestra presencia.

Comenzando hoy y por lo largo del año, que no solamente reconozcamos la Luz del mundo, sino ¡seamos Luz en el mundo por medio de nuestro bautismo! Hay que poner nuestra fe en práctica y agradezco todos que participaron AYER en nuestro encuentro parroquial. ¡La comunidad de la Ascensión puede brillar y brillará más fuerte en el mundo!

Hay un gran espíritu de generosidad y comunidad aquí en la Ascensión.
